The US Air Force came dramatically close to detonating a huge atomic bomb over North Carolina in 1961, according to a newly declassified document published by Britain's Guardian newspaper on Saturday. Two hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over the city of Goldsboro, North Carolina on January 23, 1961 when the B-52 plane carrying them broke up in mid-air, according to the file.

The official version:

“Nuclear Blasts in Mississippi

Stephen Cresswell

“At 10:00 a.m. on October 22, 1964, the United States government detonated an underground nuclear device in Lamar County, in south Mississippi. Residents there felt three separate shocks, and watched as the soil rose and behaved like ocean waves. Hunting dogs howled in terror, and two miles from the test site the blast shook pecans off the pecan trees. This nuclear test, and the one that followed two years later at the same Mississippi site, were the only nuclear explosions on U.S. soil east of the Rocky Mountain states...Most residents later reported that the shock of the explosion was much stronger than they had been led to believe. “

I thought the post was saying it was an a above-ground detonation.

The reason I was misled was the poster’s implication that it was politically motivated.

If the story is to be believed, three of four safety interlocks on this particular bomb failed.

Wouldn't it have taken some doing to cause them to detonate?...
It would take a lot of doing. A nuclear reaction requires huge compression of a core of fissile elements by precisely focusing detonations around it and driving it together. A generic explosion tends to spread material outward. Unless the bombs were unlocked and armed an atomic reaction would not be possible, and even if they were, there is almost no chance that the reaction could proceed if the device was being broken apart by the kinetic energy of some external blast.

The real danger would come from the impact detonating the conventional explosives within the weapon: that souls scatter plutonium over a wide area. That would contaminate the area for a very, very long time.

You all may find this interesting...

Watch the following video. It's about 20 minutes long. Makes one wonder why California doesn't glow in the dark, and why any of us are alive.

There is still a missing H-Bomb somewhere near Tybee island near Savannah Georgia. That was in 1958.

Yes. "Best" case now is it is an A-Bomb, as the tritium needed to make it an H-Bomb has long since decayed.

After soaking in seawater, sand and silt all these years it's unlikely that the electronic are in any shape to set off the conventional charges needed to compress the pit and initiate a nuclear reaction.

For that matter, the explosives themselves are probably degraded beyond the BOOM stage and might only *pop*.

Still, having a big enough lump of fissile material out there somewhere is worrisome all by itself...

That was back in the days when we fervently asked "GOD to Bless America". Now with the godless sodomites and the party that booed GOD at their convention, led by the antiCHRIST, in control, I'd bet that last trigger would work perfectly; and we probably deserve it.

Kewl! I hadn’t see that before. It doesn’t include SA, Israel or NK, though...

I wondered why this was coming up. HIstory Channel did a show about this 5 years ago. Old News.

As for the Tybee bomb (actually off the coast from Warsaaw Island), it may never be found. The mud off the coast here is so deap and that can was so heavy, it may be 100 feet under the mud now.

EMP wouldn’t have been a big problem in 1961.

Not if you don’t mind living without electricity. True about laptops and ipods, an EMP would still have fried the electronics in cars and trucks.
