THE INCREDIBLY DEPRESSING ANSWERS COLLEGE STUDENTS GAVE WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST
The Blaze ^

Posted on 10/18/2013 5:21:46 AM PDT by bryan999

A Pennsylvania woman set out with a video camera to learn what college students in her state know about the Holocaust — and discovered an incredible lack of knowledge not only of the genocide of the Jews, but of basic facts about U.S. history and World War II.

Rhonda Fink-Whitman visited college campuses in Pennsylvania this fall, including the venerated Ivy League institution the University of Pennsylvania, where she was repeatedly faced with a remarkable ignorance about events that took place in the last century.

Students didn’t know where Normandy was, why U.S. forces landed there, why the U.S. even entered the war or who was president at the time. (Wilson, Eisenhower and JFK were among the guesses.) One student didn’t know who Anne Frank was, because he said he never read the book.

I thought the “War and Remembrance” Auschwitz scenes were very well done....and gut-wrenching, moreso than one would have expected from a Made-For-TV series, especially the portrayal of Hoess, the Kommandant.

I know how to correct this. It just depends on the approach.

Normandy: beaches where gay troops landed to defeat the Republicans.

Holocaust: a three-dimensional projection of gay people in camps being killed by Republicans.

Adolf Hitler: Republican leader

Pearl Harbor: Place where gay sailors and Marines were bombed by the Republicans.

Nuremberg: place where Republicans were tried for war crimes against gay, lesbian, and transgender citizens

I guarantee you this would get History Month treatment at CNN. Heck, if Howard Zinn weren't dead it would probably make A People's History II

“To tell you the truth I could care less if anyone knows exact date trivia. “

That’s like saying “I just want people to understand why math is important, actually being able to solve an algebraic equations is something I could care less about.”

Sorry, dates ARE an important part of history. It is very important to understand timelines and sequencing. If you don’t know dates then you can get suckered by people who play fast and loose with the truth trying to say “a” caused “b.” For sure not if “b” happened before “a.”

The phrase you are grasping for is “I COULD’T care less.” To say that you “could care less” means that you are not at rock bottom.

Truly a throw-away comment but thanks. And I clearly specified exact dates; clearly it is necessary to know the sequence of things.

I’d make book that half of these so-called intellectuals would think that the Holocaust has something to do with Glow-bull Warming. And 90% of those dolts probably believe that it’s the Tea Party behind the denials of GW.

“...we dropped the atom bomb on the Japanese ...”

I told the kids that imperial Japan sowed the wind and reaped the whirlwind because of how they attacked and invaded the countries around them. One of my uncles was in the Navy in the Pacific from 1941 to 1945.

Normally, this would be the point where I would say “never again”. But I now realize that when I die, there will be no one coming up behind me who understands what “never again” means.

Throughout their government schooling, these kids have seen “An Inconvenient Truth” at least a dozen times through the grades. But WWII? War is bad. War doesn’t solve anything. Take our word for it. Nothing to see here.

I know a college student. I won’t give any details.

I heard her say something like “SO Reagan thought the Soviet Union was an evil empire because he opposed abortion...”

??

Does that picture depict what I think it does? Is Obama really reading a book about himself to a group of small children?

Our schools would do a great service to future generations by abandoning the practice of showing Algore’s movie in every grade, and instead replacing it with the nine-hour documentary “Shoah”.

Why are those kids in college? Is Penn State just adult daycare now?

Watch the video again. The taping was also at Temple, Drexel and Penn.

Yes, Obama is reading a book which includes himself... to children...Written by Obam and published in 2010...it proved of course contrivercial...at the time Fox was critical of Obama because he was reconstructing History...

In the book Obama calls 'Sitting Bull' a man “who healed broken hearts and broken promises. It is fine that we are different, he said.”

It notes in the appendix that Sitting Bull “spoke out and led his people against many policies of the United States government. He is most famous for his stunning victory in 1876 over Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer in the Battle of the Little Bighorn.”

This is the book
