VIRGINIA'S CATHOLIC BISHOPS SAY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT 'LAWBREAKERS'

Having been cued by President Obama that his attention will now turn to immigration reform, some Catholic bishops are revving up their campaign to demand that Congress grant amnesty to at least 11 million illegal immigrants. In an op-ed in the Richmond Times-Dispatch entitled “Who Is My Neighbor?” Virginia’s bishops criticized Americans who claim illegal immigrants are “lawbreakers.” Bishops Francis DiLorenzo of Richmond and Paul Loverde of Arlington wrote, “Many regard the undocumented immigrants among us as lawbreakers, when instead we are all challenged to embrace them as fellow children of God, deserving of the same dignity that we ourselves enjoy.” Unlike the model that welcomed our parents, grandparents or great-grandparents to these shores in the last century or before, current policy does not adequately or realistically address the need for visas. Living in this comparatively prosperous, peaceful nation, many Americans seem unaware of the desperate situations that lead people to enter or remain in the country illegally. Around the globe, people yearn for better lives, a chance to escape poverty, jobs to feed their families, reunion with their kin or life in a country free of war. Arguing that “immigration reform will strengthen Virginia socially and economically,” the bishops claim that, regardless, a “path to citizenship” should be accomplished simply “because it is the right thing to do.”

Bendezu referred to attaining legal citizenship as only “a piece of paper.” --This total disrespect for our country and cheapens citizenship.

Great idea, Padre. Why not get on the bus to Mexico and tell their immigration officers that.

I’m sure Mexicans feel exactly that way about Guatemalans. Welcome. Come on in. Make yourself at home.

It’ll be interesting to see, if Obama starts the amnesty push with a lot of noise in the media, if Pope Francis will stick his big nose in and give the typical socialist response in favor of Obama’s plan. He has a big mouth, bigger than all these Bishops.

Murderers are children of God, too. I don’t want to embrace them too closely though.

Try going into any other country illegally and see what happens.

You know, the more you look at them the more it is apparent that the elites, and I count the religious elites, all seem to think alike. They hang out together and their ideas rub off on each other. Et tu Brute.

Well, here's one law that we're dealing with:
18 USC § 1028 - Fraud and related activity in connection with identification documents, authentication features, and information
(a) Whoever, in a circumstance described in subsection (c) of this section—

(snip)

(3) knowingly possesses with intent to use unlawfully or transfer unlawfully five or more identification documents (other than those issued lawfully for the use of the possessor), authentication features, or false identification documents;
(4) knowingly possesses an identification document (other than one issued lawfully for the use of the possessor), authentication feature, or a false identification document, with the intent such document or feature be used to defraud the United States;

(snip)

shall be punished as provided in subsection (b) of this section.
(b) The punishment for an offense under subsection (a) of this section is—

(snip)

(snip)

(6) a fine under this title or imprisonment for not more than one year, or both, in any other case.

In 2007, there were 1.8 million tax returns filed using so-called "Individual Tax Identification Numbers" (SSANs for non-resident aliens). So for the rest of the 15 million or so illegals...either:

So, not a crime, Bishops?

The US Catholic Bishops are pro amnesty

They also have been some of the biggest backers of socialized medicine.

Liberation theology is alive and well in the US Catholic church.

So true. Didn’t Jesus have many encounters with the religious leaders of his day who loved being looked up to by other people?

Gosh, a Bishop says it, so it must be true.

Um, not.

Well this Catholic has two words for these two bishops and their initials are BS. Just one more reason why bishops get little respect from the Catholics in the pews.

The Catholic clergy seem to be quite chummy with the “Catholic” Democrat politicians.

First lie constantly forced on us night and day, 11 million illegal immigrants. In absolutely no form or fashion are there only 11 million illegal immigrants. AT LEAST 28 million illegal immigrants are in this nation. I promise.

And if they are legalized they will be allowed to bring other family members here legally.

We are talking about the end of the US as we know it.
