“and here’s why we should let it slide...”

Because he didn’t really believe in government “for the people, by the people” either?

They showed a spreadsheet-style document, and a column named “religion”. Down that column you could see various religions listed for other people..... religions such as Presbyterian, Lutherine, Methodist, etc, but Lincoln’s was listed as “Liberal”. He came from a Baptist family, he attended the Presbyterian church in Washington DC while President, he often quoted the Bible. From these facts how do they arrive at the word “Liberal”. The word Liberal does not denote a religious preference. It denotes a political leaning, I thought.

All I can say is, “And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.” (Abraham Lincoln)

What a heretic! (Sarcasm off...)

He who controls the history controls the future. Or something like that. Liberals love common core. They can spew their white guilt teaching from Howard Zinn books and fuzzy math. 2 + 2 is however many you want me to see. I suppose, yes, I could see 5 but I could see 4.

“Liberal” for the time period, perhaps..if one takes into account the definitions of a classic liberal and a classic conservative.

I’ve got to agree with that description.

1. He single-handedly created our despotic federal government. States that voluntarily enter the Union should be able to just as voluntarily leave the Union. He decided states had no rights.

2. He threatened to jail the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court for an opinion which stated the above.

3. He jailed any reporters or editors that were critical of the war.

4. He jailed the entire Maryland legislature because he feared they’d vote to secede.

Not exactly a man of the people.

And he held our nation together when the treasonous slavers threatened to tear it apart.

God bless him!

All by his lonesome?

Half the country thought that way and many of them did so before Lincoln even came on the scene.

He jailed any reporters or editors that were critical of the war.

Surely not all. Why'd he have such bad press if he did?

In any case, Jeff Davis did the same. Welcome to civil war. It's not pretty.

He jailed the entire Maryland legislature because he feared they’d vote to secede.

Not the whole legislature. Just the traitorous ones. I'm pretty sure he didn't actually do it himself either.
