A Doctor’s self-serving medical fraud which caused countless illnesses and deaths
Coach is Right ^ | 3/24/14 | Michael D. Shaw

Posted on 03/24/2014 8:51:13 AM PDT by Oldpuppymax

In 1998, British Doctor Andrew Wakefield published research findings in Britain's famed medical journal The Lancet linking autism to a children’s vaccine (MMR) for measles, mumps and rubella. The doctor’s claims resulted in a panic as they “…triggered a slump in immunization levels, outbreaks of infectious disease and worldwide public worry.”

In 2004, London Sunday Times reporter Brian Deer revealed that Dr. Wakefield had literally MADE UP the research which showed autism resulting in a matter of days after children had been vaccinated. Deer found that a group of attorneys was paying Wakefield large sums to discredit the MMR vaccine. The attorneys planned to profit from lawsuits filed against the companies which made it.

Coach is Right is proud that staff writer Michael D. Shaw is, according to the American Council on Science and Health (ACSH), “responsible for what is arguably the best…in-depth assessment of the investigation of [the Wakefield] research to the eventual retraction of the Wakefield paper…”

Here is the Shaw article as it appeared on HealthNewsDigest.com:

I got in trouble with my wife when I showed her daughter (an A2 milk proponent) that A2 milk was a scam.

Wakefield’s research has all been replicated by other researchers. Brian Deer was censured for his inaccurate reporting on Wakefield.

The Coach is Wrong on this one. Amazing the lengths that the big pharma industry will go to keep this gravy train running. And I have personal experience with this, it was right after my sons MMR that he became autistic.

My wife and I know a couple who have two sons in their late teens who are walking vegetables and they say they were BOTH normal children until they had the vaccinations. They bring both of them to church and one might seem normal from a distance but up close it is obvious that something is very wrong, the other is obvious at a distance and makes odd noises during the service while swinging his head back and forth. Neither of them talks.

Shakespeare has still not been disproven.

Censured by whom? Source please.

It’s also worth noting that Wakefield withdrew his paper.

Honest question here as I have no dog in this fight.:

MMR vaccines have been common since the mid 70s. Is there any evidence of higher autism rates among these older populations? If not, what changed in the MMR formula to begin to cause autism - spectrum disorders?

This is why you must pay attention to sources. Lancet in the very distant past was a respected journal. It hasn’t been for decades.

I hope you have your flame suit on because there are some on FR that believe this phony, quack science and will tell you that vaccines are bad bad bad.

Of course they want to talk about flu vaccines and never want to talk about the good things that have happened by no longer having to fear polio, mumps, small pox, chicken pox, whooping cough, etc etc.

Anyway thanks for the read it is a pleasure to see the trudgers get their due

Not only a scam but one of the most ridiculous theories I have ever read.

I take it your wife and daughter have no science background what so ever

No it has not. you cannot cite ONE study which replicated anything Wakefield ‘did’. You cannot REPLICATE falsified data ....ynless of course you are suggesting that others made up data as well

1974 schedule:

2 months: DTP, TOPV (trivalent oral polio virus)
4 months: DTP, TOPV
6 months: DTP, TOPV
1 year: Measles, TB test
1-12 years: Rubella, Mumps
1 1/2 years: DTP, TOPV
4-6 years: DTP, TOPV

The schedule for 2014 is here:
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/child-adolescent.html

I counted at least 29 shots before the kid is 2 years old. The theory is that hitting young kids with this many shocks to their immune system (which is what vaccines do) is what does it, with the MMR being the straw that breaks the camels back so to speak.

See what I said???

trapped _in_LA ....you cannot make the conclusion that post hoc ergo proper hoc regarding autism.

the silliness that goes with this theory is easily disproved by a little thought experiment. IF the MMR vaccine causes autism THEN why was it that autism did not spike until the mid to late 1990s? That vaccine has been around from the 1960s. The formulary was the same through out.

You obviously have NO understanding of science or the scientific method. You are ripe for all sorts of nonsense that will be peddled to you

This is anecdotal reportage at best. You cannot conclude post hoc ergo proper hoc. That is NOT the way science works. Please LEARN something about data collecting and analysis and then read up on the scientific method before you continue making really ignorant comments

WRONG.... MMR have been around since the 1960s...BUT your point is well taken and EXACTLY what the pseudoscientific wonders cannot answer.

Many want to blame thimerosol as the culprit.....unfortunately for them that compound was routinely used in all vaccine since the 1930s and of course it was put on every scratch and cut of every kid growing up and having merthiolate put on a boo boo.

When you want people to believe stupidity you just have to yell louder ;)

I have a masters in Electrical Engineering and have sat through more medical conferences than you could shake a stick at. So Mr. Bright science guy what’s your qualifications? Or is it that you’re some mind numbed zombie that believes everything the government says?

As an aside, go to any children’s graveyard, you’ll start to see a pattern for the really young ones buried there that happens to fall right on the vaccination schedule.

Cite one source where this has been proved....you make all sorts of comments that have nothing but emotions attached to it.

There is NO requirement that your child receive a flu vaccine that is purely optional and most pediatricians that I know don’t encourage it. The same is true for the rotovirus and the pneumonia vaccines. HiB has been pretty routine since the late 70s early 80s.

Then you have FAILED and I repeat again FAILed in your ability to read data and analyze it. To tell me of an anecdotal case that is personal and based on emotion and NOT science shows a lack of intellectual honesty
