Wisconsin’s governor Scott Walker passed three new laws, addressing domestic violence. The laws include a mandate that police track the incidents where no arrests are made when dealing with a domestic-disturbance call.
The laws also make it very clear that there will be a process for seizing an “abuser’s” guns.
This section of the law was proposed by Republican Rep. Andre Jacque of De Pere, and also requires district attorneys to report to the Wisconsin Department of Justice each time a cop responds to a domestic abuse call and doesn’t arrest anyone.
Republican Rep. Garey Bies proposed in the third law passed, that people subject to a domestic-abuse injunction must fill out a form to document, and then surrender their weapons. When the individuals injunction expires, they would have to request them back in writing.
“This is one more big step toward trying to make sure that for every gun you take away, it’s that much better for (a victim, their) family and friends and loved ones who care about that person,” Walker said.
These extreme measures are being put forth equipped with a sob story of a tragic incident involving a deadly case of domestic abuse. Are these measure going to help domestic violence? Probably not but it will help disarm the population.
The governor signed 55 other bills at the state capitol , one measure prohibits people from advertising their children for adoption online, while another legalizes the use of marijuana byproduct cannabidiol to treat children’s seizures.
Other bills of note allow University of Wisconsin System researchers to perform classified national security work in campus facilities, give county jailors more authority to strip search inmates, and legalize nonprofits’ rubber-duck race fundraisers. The state Justice Department has warned such races amount to illegal gambling.
If an abuser, or any other criminal, is so dangerous... Why not just lock them up? If there isn’t anything worthy of criminal charges, why are they being punished?
I’m 5’10” and a tad under 260lbs. I workout 4 days a week with weights that would crush a “normal” sized person.
My Wife is ARMED. Were I to try and “abuse” her or our kids in any way, she would shoot me without hesitation.
Removing the firearms from our household would only put her at significant risk were I to “lose it”. Which, I might add, I am under no risk of doing...
It seems to me that as conservatives, we’d find another way to do this. Possibly by making it easier for victims of abuse to defend themselves as I’ve outlined above.
The FR dump-fest has started, where people who have a favorite dump on the other contenders, rather than just openly promoting their favorite.
I'm currently supportive of Scott Walker, due to his executive experience, with Ted Cruz being my 2nd (I like Ted's ability to articulate conservative ideas, but would like him better if he'd had more experience actually running organizations).

I have tremendous respect for Walker and what he has endured and accomplished, in the face of sheer evil. Cruz will always have my attention, I have respect for him as well.
Yep, I’ve had to let friends go from WI that were so unhinged over the unions and their ‘rights’. They are seriously not rational people.
I wonder how many of them were among the frothing-at-the-mouth anti-Walker people earlier in the thread. When I posted my #78, noting that the article was a hoax, I pinged most of the people active in the discussion up to that point. You can see the level of response.
In Maine, one can be required to go to a psychiatric hospital against one’s will. It is a Blue Paper and can be initiated by anyone in health care, usually a nurse or a social worker and signed by a NP PA DO or MD. It is then signed by justice of the peace (in Maine is a lawyer who makes bucks for each one evaluated) who just makes sure the i’s are dotted and the t’s crossed.

That paper with that low level of evaluation is what admits someone to the psychiatric hospital. That paper at that level of evaluation is what takes gun rights away from Maine citizens.
The next day the patient is evaluated by a psychiatrist who either agrees with the commitment or terminates it.
However it matters not if the commitment is terminated, the ADMISSION under the blue paper is what TERMINATES ALL GUN RIGHTS FOR THE CITIZEN. So someone with an agenda in an ED has a perfect platform to start limiting second amendment rights in a medical setting where very few are sympathetic to those rights.

Does this law exclude cops? Cops are four times more likely to commit domestic violence than the public at large.
I'll bet a LOT of people would love to see YOU thrown in jail if your "real" life is anything like the way you present yourself here. A nosy busy-body all too willing to jail people "for the betterment of society." You apparently have zero respect for the law (evident because you think that an ex felon, who has paid his/her debt to society, should continue being punished for the rest of his/her life by being denied the right to own guns and to vote) and think that your own perception of "good" and "bad" behavior entitles you to interfere in the freedoms and rights of others.
It would be interesting if someone started calling 911 with complaints against YOU repeatedly, accusing you of violence. Would you have yourself thrown in jail and your guns taken away?
