Without the wild uniforms, I agree. Those are such a distraction and it loses tradition.
I suspect these days if you go into a boy’s bedroom, you’re more likely to see a poster of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo than one of an NFL player.
The impact of now having Premier League and Championship League games shown here is huge.
Back when I was in high school, the only way you could watch soccer was the Spanish channel, or shows like “Soccer Made In Germany” on PBS that showed games that were played like two weeks earlier.

Yep, right, we all need to watch way more TV. Just as good as reading or meditating. If you have children, I hope they aren’t reading this. And any parent out there, please think critically about this before you give the kids carte blanche with the TV.

Yes, kids play sports. But the sports weren’t made by or for kids, they moved down to kids who tend to do variations of what they see adults doing. Kids also play with toy cars, but nobody is silly enough to call driving a kid’s activity. Kids have Easy Bake Ovens, but nobody says the baker is playing a kid’s game.
Depends on the sport. Baseball predates the Revolutionary War played and organized by adults. The core Olympic sports (track and field) go back as far as we can tell, again played and organized by adults. The roots are always with the adults, then the kids get a version, and that provides the next generation of adult players, who inspire more kids. You can spot the true kid’s games because people stop doing them after puberty.
Who said watch more TV? Not me. That’s you lying to make a strawman.
Where I live in Suburban Dallas, you’re more likely to see kids playing Lacrosse than football.
And realize now, we here have high school seniors graduating who have no memories of the Cowboys being a good football team.
That should worry Jerry Jones more than anything, because the mystique the franchise had is quickly fading.
Lacrosse is a great sport, very fast, pretty darn violent. I love football but if lacrosse replaced it on the top of the heap I could cope with that. Of course what kids play as kids isn’t always an indication of what they’ll watch as adults. Soccer has been the #1 kid participant sport in America for a long time now, and while its ratings have been growing it’s still pretty far down the “also ran” heap.
The MINIMUM NFL rookie contract is 405 k. Cry me a river.
I think what will happen as more Americans play soccer in Europe and make good money at it, then more of our better young athletes will choose to play soccer. The next breakthrough will be when there is a legitimate US superstar forward or attacking midfielder, ala Messi, that could be a marketer’s dream.

Sounds like a good recommendation/justification for watching more TV.
No it doesn’t, the fact that the list leads with books shows that. Also I’m merely pointing out what happens when we are entertained, as far as your brain is concerned you’re dreaming. Which shows that entertainment is a vital part of a healthy mind. Now what FORM of entertainment is up to the one who wants to be entertained for a bit before getting back to the grindstone to pay for this government. Could be TV, could be a book, heck could be both, I do most of my reading while watching TV, and most of my TV watching while reading.
Now it makes sense. Multi-tasking lower your IQ more than pot smoking.
