TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Under allegations that illegal immigrant children are being mistreated at border patrol facilities Customs and Border Patrol is firing back.
In a release sent to 9 On Your Side Friday CBP said they are "Ensuring nutritional and hygienic needs are met; that children are provided meals regularly and have access to drinks and snacks throughout the day; that facilities include toilets; that they receive constant agent supervision; that children who exhibit signs of illness or disease are given proper medical care.” The statement added, “Mistreatment or misconduct is not tolerated.."
A representative with the El Salvadorian consulate, who toured the Nogales site yesterda, told 9 O Your Side the kids have not had consistent access to showers or been able to brush their teeth.
However, that does go against the claims of others who have previously toured the facility.
