Poll: 41 percent wants less immigration (6 point jump)

A new survey from Gallup finds 41 percent want immigration to the United States to decrease.

The Gallup poll released Friday found a 6-percentage-point spike in the number of people who want immigration to fall since last year. Gallop asked people about immigration, not illegal immigration.

Thirty-three percent of people think immigration levels are fine at the present level, while 22 percent say those levels should be increased.

While only 22 percent support increased immigration, that number has been trending up over the past 15 years.

In 1999, even more people wanted to see immigration rates fall and only 10 percent said immigration should increase, according to Gallup.

The new survey comes amid a heated debate over immigration, and a widening humanitarian crisis at the Southwest border where thousands of young children are attempting to enter the United States. Most of the immigrants are coming from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

The wave has led to crowded detention centers, with many children sent to relatives in the United States to await hearings. The Obama administration has said they will be sent back to their home countries. Critics on the right argue many will end up staying in the United States, while critics on the left say not enough is being done to help them.

Congressional Democrats are urging the administraiton to take additional steps to ease deportations in light of inaction by Republicans in Congress on legislation.

The Gallup poll found Republicans are the most likely to say immigration should decrease, with 50 percent of the party holding that view. Forty-three percent of independents and 32 percent of Democrats feel the same.

Other polling has found that a majority supports a number of components in the Senate passed immigration bill last year, which has stalled in the House. That included expanding the amount of visas for skilled workers.

However, immigration reform — whether to deal with legal or illegal immigration — is unlikely to advance this year, ahead of the midterm elections.

“Immigration is central to who Americans are as a people, and what the United States represents, and by and large Americans view immigration as positive for the country," Gallup wrote in an analysis accompanying the poll. "But deciding how many new immigrants to welcome each year can be controversial, particularly when unemployment is high, and seeming competition for good jobs already fierce."

The survey polled 1.027 people from June 5-8 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

What Obama means is that they may be sent back, but they will be sent back with a perpetual subsidy and US Government benefits drawable on their nearest third/fourth world bank. Additionally, they will be mailed universal absentee ballots with which to cast their affirmation of Obama and his future designees.

If you like your job, you can keep your job. That is unless an illegal alien wants it.

The people’s minds are changing and they wanted to get their reform through before this happened. Unfortunately for them, we kept the pressure on our representatives, preventing them from passing something.

But I won’t feel safe on this until this session of congress is over, with all pending legislation dead and buried.

“There is not a smidgeon of corruption in the IRS,” declared Barack Obama.

How many times does Obama have to look into a TV camera and lie before the the totally ignorant 35% catches on that he can’t be trusted on any issue???

If the Gallop Poll was even close to being accurate while stating that 41 % oppose alien immigration
I am sure that there are many who would vote to oppose alien immigration
For an accurate representation, and to discover the "will of the people", the issue should be a "National Referendum " in the FALL 2014 elections
Normally , that would be true !

However , the votes of Senate or House Representatives couldn't be 'bought' by Chamber of Commerce, Facebook , or other monied special interests ,
so it will never happen, nor will the real interests of the American people be realized ! Politicians are nothing more than power-hungry cowards !

These polls are useless, they don't make any important distinctions.
I do not mind skilled immigrants, people who can and will work, within the current or possibly expanded visa quotas.
I do not want unchecked "immigration", drug runners, gang members, terrorists, people of unknown origin or intent, welfare cases or thousands of children that were deliberately transported here to shame us.
Legal = Good, Illegal = Bad. Why is that so hard to understand?
Why don't even the most rudimentary poll ask that?

If you answer a poll on whether or not you support more immigration, what question exactly did you answer?
How will your answer be interpreted?
Does it even matter, when the bottom line is: You either support immigration or you're racist.

Almost all immigration ,conducted by this current adminstration has been illegal
and a violation of "oath of office " by the Executive Division of Government.
Unless going thorough the tiresome, litigious immigation process,
which others have done ; anything less I consider less than legal.

I find it amusing that the _res__ent is more concerned about Ukrainian soverignty
but has no concern about his administration encouraging alien immigration at this country's Southern border .
Hypocrasy, deception and ignorance are the characteristics of this current administration.
