Trayvon Martin never lived to see his 18th birthday, but the slain Florida teenager is slowly becoming one of the most important figures in the modern civil rights era.
Martin was walking to his home in a gated Florida neighborhood in 2012 when neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman mistook him for a burglar. After a brief struggle, Zimmerman shot and killed Martin, an act that a jury later deemed justified.
The case aroused racial tensions and immediately became a cause celebre among activists who believed that police did not follow through on charging Zimmerman simply because Martin was a black teen.
But with now one year since Zimmerman’s acquittal, Trayvon Martin has grown to be seen as a martyr among civil rights activists. His parents started the Trayvon Martin Foundation, which aims to “create awareness of how violent crime impacts the families of the victims and to provide support and advocacy for those families in response to the murder of Trayvon Martin.”
Martin’s parents have used their platform to speak out on other cases, including the murder of Jordan Davis, a teen who was killed in Florida after a dispute over loud music.
Last weekend, a march to remember Trayvon Martin drew a number of celebrities. The event was held in Crenshaw, Los Angeles, on the one-year anniversary of the day Zimmerman was acquitted of murdering the 17-year-old.
Among those present were rapper Nipsy Hustle and Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who addressed the crowd of roughly 200 people.
“Players such as myself and others that have kind of a platform, our responsibility is more than just putting a ball in the basket… but helping [Trayvon's parents] have a platform.”
Kobe added that his career seems important “in a vacuum,” but added “when you step out of that, you look at [Trayvon's parents]… what they had to go through as a family and what they’ve come out of… that’s true adversity.”
Trayvon’s legacy also casts a shadow over modern race relations. The image of Martin in a dark hoodie became a rallying point, and an image that remains connected to the slain teen today. When Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban earlier this year told a reporter that he was prejudiced when he would see “a black kid in a hoodie on my side of the street,” he later apologized to Martin’s family for making the unintentional connection.
The apology was displayed prominently on the Trayvon Martin Foundation’s website.
Martin’s parents have been at the forefront of the push to turn Trayvon Martin into a martyr of the civil rights movement. Earlier this year his father compared Trayvon to Emmett Till, the 14-year-old whose brutal murder became a turning point in the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s.
George Zimmerman was the wrong color.
More specifically he was made out to be a white guy.
Owning a gun
Legally carrying a gun
Profiling a preson of color because he was casing properties
Defending himself from assault.
Not rolling over for the liberal attack machine.
Those, to the left, are far more serious crimes than the crime of attempted murder that Trayvon was engaged in - after all, to them Trayvon was just standing up for centuries of oppression of the black man, and Zimmerman had some whoop-ass coming to him for profiling Trayvon - and liberals cheerfully lap up all the misinformation in the case (such as Zimmerman being ordered to not follow Trayvon) because it bolsters their opinion.
And I am not joking. I've tried to discuss this case with liberals. This is how they feel, and feelings matter much more than facts and law to them.
Presenting this as news is false and misleading news. Fortunately, anyone exposed to even a tiny bit of the court testimony would know it is false.

ABSOLUTE LYING CRAP!! St. Trayvon of the Skittles(SBUH)had gotten home then decided to get Zimmerman, doubled back, jumped Zimmerman, tried to murder him by bashing his head into a cement sidewalk, and was stopped only when Zimmerman shot him with a legally permitted firearm. Martin was nothing but an evil young thug and a wannabe murderer whose budding criminal career was cut short by an honorable man who refused to be a victim. That the "civil rights" movement treats the subhuman Martin a a martyr only shows how evil that movement has become.
And another Martin — Martin Luther King — is rolling in his grave.
Yes, I know the man was a jerk in some ways, but he did help to advance racial equality. And he was not a punk street thug.
Perpetuating reports of an attack by a black youth of a black security guard into a concoction as a racial incident of lies and urban legend generated from utterances made from the “POTUS Bully Pulpit”. From a POTUS who needed to generate racial division to maintain control serves the regime very well.

His parents have become mega rich over this. He had what another year of life before he would have been gunned down by another punk and his parents would not have received a dime. His parents are pathetic.
It's not about him anymore, if it ever was. It's about the perpetuation of the Saint Trayvon of the Condo Complex Foundation.
The loving parents, formerly not exactly belonging to the Fortune 500 elite, now have their own money box already loaded with cash for their own personal use a la the Clinton Family Charitable Foundation to Bilk the Permanently Stupid.
In other words, start a tax exempt "family" foundation, install Daddy as president and Mommy as treasurer, put family and friends on the board of directors, then vote yourselves fat salaries, health insurance, world-wide travel, lodging, food and other expenses...all paid for by donations from cultish, knuckle-dragging disciples and arm-twisted local and national businesses who don't know or care they're supporting racist scam artists.
The hardest work the Trayvons have to do is to keep the myth and the mystique alive and in the news so that the cash keeps coming in....and the above article is part and parcel of that agenda.
Obama's half-brother and Kenya resident, Malik, also set up one of these fraudulent tax-exempt "charitable" family foundations (The Barack H. Obama Foundation) which incorporation was more-than-speedily approved by the IRS after the divine intervention of Lois Lerner herself.
In fact, this "family foundation" thing is such a lucrative racket, I'm surprised a rage to form one isn't sweeping the country.
And the dumbass media continues to churn out ignorant drivel such as the article above.....while, as usual, ignoring the scam itself.
