Ted Cruz Is No Hero For Insulting A Room Of Persecuted Christians
The Federalist ^ | 09/11/2014 | Mollie Hemingway

Posted on 09/11/2014 12:26:24 PM PDT by Pyro7480

...We learn of a Maronite Christian seeking a liaison with Hezbollah and it sounds horrifically bad until you realize the purpose is to work together to fight ISIS, for instance. Her descriptive language for the various Christian leaders...suggests a lack of intimacy with the topic....

...When Cruz was supposed to give the keynote address and discuss the deadly serious topic of persecution of Christians, he instead insulted a largely immigrant and foreign crowd as a group that didn’t understand their own political situation and stomped out of the room after calling them a bunch of haters....

The fact is, as Mark Tooley explains in a very thoughtful and balanced piece, that Christians who are persecuted have political views that may not align with U.S. interests. Who knew? For many of us, our concern about genocide of Christians isn’t limited to those who are perfectly aligned with our views. Someone will have to explain to me how positioning Cruz and the Free Beacon this way — as the go-to group for missing the point on Christian persecution — is a good thing for either of them or the military solutions they seek....

While the case absolutely can and should be made that support for Israel does help the fight against Christian persecution, it would be naive and wrong for Christians to think that the United States has their interests at heart globally (or domestically, it seems!). And the United States has no governmental obligation to help out the Christians who are dying in the Middle East, although it would be wonderful if we could stop doing things that lead so quickly to their persecution. But I do wonder if some hawks misunderstand or underestimate American Christian sentiment about our brothers and sisters in Christ at their peril.

Cruz was right. Israel and the USA (Christians) share a common enemy.

In the ME, “Chrislam” hates Jews & Israel.

The Kurds were persecuted too, and that didn't make them hate Jews. These people have just been exposed to the propaganda for so long, and subconsciously they had to be anti-Israel to stop from extra persecution, but then it became what they believed.

The problem with political correctness is that no one wants to tell 'protected' peoples, your ways of hatred are wrong, Western values like tolerance are superior. I'm all in on Cruz now!

Cruz has got to be very careful on foreign policy. When he takes sides, it could come back to haunt him when situations cause situations to shift.

I have to ask, about Israel. Have they done anything to help save the Christians, Yazitis, and other minorities from ISIS?

Ted Cruz was right.

Christians and Republicans need to stand with Israel!

The response from some in the audience tells me that there were Muslims in the room.

I don’t hate them for living in a world saturated with antisemitism and becoming infected with it. That does not mean I should accept it.

Gee, how odd that every time someone of principle stands on it and ACTS on it, leftist ‘conservative’/GOP types fly out of the woodwork to condemn it.

According to Politico's report it went like this:

“I will say this: I’m saddened to see that some here, not everyone, are so consumed with hate,” he said at the outset of the video, his comments prompting continued booing and yelling out from some members of the crowd. “I will say this: If you will not stand with Israel and the Jews, then I will not stand with you. Thank you, and God bless you,” he said, walking off stage to scattered applause and boos.

Sounds like the rudeness was all one way.

Tens of millions of Muslims refer to us as the "Little Satan and the Big Satan". It would seem that even the middle eastern "Christians" share that view??? Cruz could have been far more blunt..., he was "politically correct" in ending his presentation as he did!

Ted Cruz “stomped out of the room?” I very much doubt it.

It doesn’t sound like a real good time for “Christians” to choose to politically align themselves against the only people who might prevent their extermination. Christians dealing with Hezbollah is the eat me last theory. Perhaps they choose to be martyrs without a following to morn them.

You may have missed the news but Israel has been dodging thousands of rockets that are being sent daily and is fighting for their lives and freedom.

A lot of Middle East Christians have no use for Israel, and for a lot of different reasons. Their worldview is not ours.

Survival sharpens self interest in amazing ways.

Cruz should have known his audience better.

"Hater" is one of the left's favorite put-downs.

I guess its not rude when they use it.
