Italy: 100,000 in Anti-Immigration Demo

Northern League rally fills Milan's Cathedral Square

An estimated 100,000 people protested against illegal immigration, Islamisation and the European Union at a rally organised by the Lega Nord (Northern League) in front of Milan's Cathedral, the heart of the city.

The crowd was so enormous that it took two hours for everybody to get to the vast square.

Demonstrators were holding banners saying "No to mosques", "Fewer illegals = fewer diseases", "Less money to refugees", and "If I catch Ebola I'll infect Alfano". Angelino Alfano is Italy's Minister of the Interior, responsible, among other things, for internal security and immigration.

The main message was similar to that of my party Liberty GB in the UK: in social priorities Italians must come first, otherwise it is reverse racism.

Milan anti-immigration protest

This was the first major event organised by the Northern League under the new leadership of Matteo Salvini, followed with interest in Central and Southern Italy as well.

"Stop the invasion" was the demonstration's slogan, with the objective of stopping the Mare Nostrum operation, Italy's mission of rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean - called "Mare Nostrum" (our sea) by the Romans, but ironically not ours even around our coasts any more.

Said Salvini in his speech at the rally: "Like other countries, we have to use Navy ships to defend our borders and not to help the people smugglers." The Italian term for a person who ferries illegal immigrants to Italy by boat for a high fee is "scafista".

A few days later, in Strasbourg, the Northern League's leader discussed these issues with his party's French ally in the European Parliament, Front National's Marine Le Pen. Together they'll call for the suspension of the Schengen Treaty and for border control. The League identifies mass immigration as a source of unfair competition against the unemployed Italian workers.

As in Britain with the EDL, a counter-demonstration was held a few hundred yards away by the "anti-fascist" radical Left. And, like in here, the massive deployment of security forces ensured that there was no contact between the two camps.

Wearing a T-shirt, Salvini led the march to the Piazza del Duomo suggesting slogans through a megaphone, and when it got in front of Palazzo Marino, home to Milan City Council, he stopped the march to shout at Mayor Giuliano Pisapia: "We do not want the new mosque in Milan."

The Northern League has gone from strength to strength and is now a force to reckon with, in Italy. But, unlike a party like the UKIP in Britain, it has a firm anti-Islam position. I cannot imagine Farage yelling against mosque building.

I’ve been in that square, and I don’t think it can hold 100,000 people. Must have been considerable overflow.

This is great! I’d like to see that here. But, it’s hard for a party or a group to get up steam without the Government, the rowdy minorities, and the MSM stepping on it hard.

This was organized by a political party. Could you imagine if the Republicans (spit) called for something like this? Millions would show up. They won’t, of course. It’s time for the GOP to die so we can make a party that represents us.

The Tea Party is spinning its wheels trying to affect the GOP.

The two party system is stable... maybe too stable, especially when combined with a fixed term of office.

Europe’s multiparty systems seemed laughably ineffective and unstable, especially when coupled with votes of confidence that could trigger elections on short notice. Government by coalition is looking a lot better to me now.

I always knew the Italians would wise up. And they know what to do to correct the situation, and without a lot of fanfare either.

Interesting how Europe and the United States are becoming such opposites. It’s a wonder Europe doesn’t remove the US from NATO

Yep. Anyone who thinks immigration is out of hands in US should take a look at Italy.
The worst of Mexican immigrants are really sweet and almost Italian by their standards.
And what they got in Italy are really feral which ‘fundamentally changes the very fabric of their nation’.
When you are traveling along Italy by car you can see a colonies of African roadside prostitutes living in shacks by the highway who are aggressively offering their services for a couple euros right there. I can’t imagine who are using their services in such conditions but there are certainly some customers or they wouldn’t keep with the practice. Someone told that the beasts charge extras for condom if one wants to be served protected. Imagine that.
It is exactly how they have out of control AIDS in Africa and it is shocking to see things like that tolerated in a country which consider itself civilized.

Yes, Italy is absolutely awash in illegal immigrants. It is a disgusting spectacle.

But, BUT I say, you also should point out that the Italian voter, Mr. Average Giuseppe, is so Far Left that Berkeley Hippies look like Wm. F. Buckley in comparison.

Politically Correct? Its Team Obama on steroids. The Eyeties got sucker-punched. For many decades of the 20th C, Italy was where "refugees" hung out while arranging passage elsewhere. Italian organizations, many of them church-connected, put out such a great welcome mat that over the years more and more of those fleeing something or other decided they liked "la dolce vita" on the very dolce dole, and especially the food, so they started staying in ever larger numbers, instead of pushing on to places that needed people in the countryside, like Argentina.

This was bad enough when the refugees were genuine Eastern Europeans fleeing the commies, East Germans, Hungarians, Poles, or Czechs, ( many of'em Catholics and sort of knowing about clean underwear and not crapping in the street) but it didn't take long for those dratted rough-trade Albanians to catch on, along with their Gypsy (sorry, "Rom") cohorts, then the Africans, previously seen (and frankly best seen) only in the pages of old "National Geographics," whom Albanian pimps soon put to work. Don't forget the Chinese/Vietnamese, who can make walking down a beautiful street a life-threatening experience on any Italian town.

There is going to be an inevitable reaction. A pity illegal immigrants can't read. They should look up the "Sicilian Vespers." When the Eyeties finally decide enough's enough, it ain't real pretty.

BTW, The not especially attractive Lega Nord also hates other Italians who "ain't from around here." They want Italy divided again into Italy and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies!

Too little too late. A friend called from outside of Rome and told me this was his last trip. He has lived in Canada for yrs. Italy went thru the Hate the USA, let terrorist move freely and ranted pro islamic crap since the 80s...now their women and children are getting raped daily..and no one even breaks a sweat.

A handful of decent protestors cant compete with the run of the mill euro trash.
