I don't know what went on at Bad Nenndorf, but I do remember that German soldiers were held in an area converted into a prison near the center of our town in the American South. We children were told that the men were being detained because they were the enemy, but it was also explained by parents and teachers that most of them were just young men, drafted into service for their country, grateful to be fed, cared for, and away from the war. There was loss and grief in our town, but, like the majority of Americans—civilian or military, they went on doing the best they could, for themselves and others.

I think the Bad Nenndorf article, if factual, needs to be placed in the proper perspective. Let's hear some of the millions of stories of GI’s and Brits who quietly demonstrated kindness, generosity, and heroism during WWll.

I have some skepticism about the timing of the Guardian UK's 2005 article (back when arguments were being made against Gitmo and interrogation techniques being used with approval of the Bush administration (sleep deprivation and fear of drowning/electrocution being among them)).

Add in the tales of "Communists" being subjected to this treatment and all of the Guardian's favorite victims/villains seem in the mix.

And for the record for the umpteenth time, the MSM did not "uncover" horrific abuse at Abu Ghraib, it was already being criminally prosecuted. The photos were leaked by the angry uncle of one of the perps he was unable to secure lenient treatment for (in offered exchange for not going public with the photos). The MSM ate it up (NY Times 30 days on the front page) in an effort to unseat President Bush in the fall election (2004). It didn't work, but it did turn stateside support against the war and it did motivate Islamonazi terrorists to flood into Iraq from other countries and wage jihad.I have some skepticism about the timing of the Guardian UK
