Fr. Z: If Pets can go to Heaven, They can also go to Hell
Canada Free Press ^ | 12/14/14 | Judi McLeod

Pet owners worldwide, including CFP’s beloved pet Yorkie, ‘Yankee’, can attest by the millions that Fidos have already found Heaven on Earth.

The pithy posts of Father John T. Zuhlsdorf (Father Z) are among my favourite on the Internet. Just as I tune in on my much-admired friend Father Paul Nicholson’s inspiring homilies, I read Fr. Z’s blog most every day.

Catholic convert Jimmy Akin of Jimmy Akin blog fame is no slouch when it comes to setting the record straight either.

In time for Christmas 2014, visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads, has been replaced by visions of Fido floating felicitously on heavenly clouds.

The Bible says the animals (and all the world) are “good”
in the Creator’s eyes....Genesis 1:25.

Human beings “Fell”, Genesis 3. Human beings ate the forbidden fruit. So, God banished human beings from the Garden of Eden.

You can ask my cat. She is still happily resident in the Garden. She gets tuna, turkey, chicken, salmon, and $15 special kibble all for free. It is her “fallen” human servant that has to go out and work hard and earn all these treats for her, by the sweat of the brow (Genesis 3:19).
She has to do no work ,or anything useful all, for any of it. Patently, she is still in the Garden of Eden.

QED.

(And you can add Isaiah 65 as further substantiation that the animals have a place in the future world/Heaven... but just ask my cat, she’s only too happy to brag about her exaulted “arrived” status....)

Ours are definitely hell-bound, there to be cold and wet and chased by coyotes for eternity. And they’ll never get anything but the cheapest dry food, and not enough of that.

At least that’s what I tell them.

>>Personally I don’t see why dogs and cats can’t be in heaven. That would be heaven in my eyes.<<

Sorry — I am a Rainbow Bridge believer.

Once a loving bond is established between a pet and its owner (in the case of dogs) or staff (in the case of cats), then that pet will be there in the bye and bye.

Did Jesus die for our pets? No, of course not. Can God, the Almighty both create a soul and insert it at the first moment of love and caring? He is Almighty, of COURSE he can!

But theology of pets is fraught with difficulties as we explain feral dogs and cats and pigs we eat, etc.

All I know is that if heaven doesn’t include my beloved 18+ and 25+ year old cats and my wife’s beloved collie then it ain’t heaven for us.

Who can possibly be the Erasmus of animal theology? Not I so I must fall back on beliefs upon which my understanding of Scripture is understandably silent.

Do Aliens (the little green/grey men) read the same Bible we do? I know for a fact, based on Twilight Zone, the Aliens have a VERY different Bible.

Since animals don’t have free will, they can “go” to neither place.

My personal belief is that God wouldn’t have put beautiful critters on the earth for us to love, and not give them a soul.

hope they join us in Heaven...but that they also get litter box duty for a millennia or two.

All things on heaven and earth being equal, litter box duty is a tad easier and less messy than outdoor poop pickup for big dogs.....

Amen!

Animals, because God called them “good”, be they cats, dogs, other animals, etc., would go right straight in to paradise.

That task should be reserved to democrats, to make up for all of it that they spread during their time here...

I think you’re right.

A pig must have a soul, because roast pig is truly soul food.

Anyway, God gives us the abiblity to have choices. Based on how we choose to live we can end up in Heaven or Hell.

I wonder why Asians have overwhelmingly chosen to be in Hell. There must be billions of Chinese, Indians and Japanese destined for eternal torment.

And btw, have you given up all your wealth to the poor? Or have you made the choice to spend eternity in the Bad Place?

good points. gnats and mosquitos go to heaven but not billions of people? The default position is not heaven. The default position is absence of God or hell. The gospel is quite clear - no one sees the Father except through Jesus Christ. Plants and animals just die. No heaven or hell. Could there be something else? Of course. But that knowledge is way above our paygrade

Pets never took the “fall” in the garden of Eden.
They were created “good” and they’ve stayed “good” in God’s eyes...

I've got a serpent who has a different opinion... along with an interesting proposition.
