Texas Poll: Should Open Carry of Arms Require Texans to Have a License?
Gun Watch ^ | 21 December, 2014 | Dean Weingarten

On December 9th, radio station KFYO ran an Internet poll on whether or not Texans should be required to have a license in order to openly carry arms in Texas. Here is the question from kfyo:

If Open Carry passes, should you have to get a license to carry? Let us know in today’s KFYO Poll of the Day.
The poll still appears to be open.  I do not see absolute numbers, but the sentiment that Texans should not have to pay for a license to exercise a right is winning by nearly five to one.

Here is a link to the poll.

Here is a typical response in the comments, by Martin Cohn:
I don't have to pay a tax to the govmt to exercise my other Constitutionally protected Civil Rights. Why should 2A be any different.
Here is an atypical reply by Zeus Odin:
What's so bad about getting a license to carry a lethal weapon in public?
It is clear that the intensity and level of commitment are on the side of those pushing for open carry without a license.   It should not be too hard to push in Texas, as it already exists in 31 other states without a problem.

Criminals almost never openly carry guns, because it calls attention to their actions.

I think we should have exceptions for those who have a moral aversion to self defense. Those people should be allowed to be defenseless.

Agreed. That would hasten the process.

I am not saying that it is common, but there have been several instances of gun owners walking into establishments with AKs and ARs at what looks like patrol ready. To me this is to the second amendment what yelling fire in a crowded theater is to the first. And yes, the anti gun media will make the most of it.

Good on ya’ for getting trained and involved. Bought my wife Ruger SR9C and am working on getting her trained. It's great that more women are becoming competent with firearms.

Wars are won using thousands of different tactics and strategies.

It’s no different for winning the war against our Constitutionally protected rights.

“The Dirty Dozen” from WWII fame were disparaged by the establishment, but their contribution was valuable too.

Yes maybe so. Maybe also it was due to ignorance of the constitution and no backbone.

Understand what you are saying, I really do. There are many different perspectives and sometimes you do have to speak softly and carry a big stick to get your point driven home.

Do I support the right to open carry? Absolutely. Do I appreciate some of the supporters strapping ominous weaponry to their backs and walking into my local Target to prove their point? From the perspective that it would scare the hell out of me at first, no I don’t appreciate it.

Do I logically understand it? Yes.

Do I think it would be a huge deterrent to those of a criminal ilk? Yes.

One vote changed it about .5% (I voted :-)), so there is only a couple hundred responders so far.

There is an element in America, and in the media that are race baiters; that have always wanted our borders open; that want amnesty; that want our Constitutional gun rights destroyed; that want native born Americans divided; and they are a fundamental problem to freedom and the America we knew.

They influenced and wrote the 1965 Immigration Law too that opened the world to America, and opened America to a million cultures that were never American. Guns have always been embedded in our culture. They want our culture destroyed.
