“The Interview” now available on Google Play and YouTube Movies
Google Blog ^ | December 24, 2014

Last Wednesday Sony began contacting a number of companies, including Google, to ask if we’d be able to make their movie, "The Interview," available online. We'd had a similar thought and were eager to help—though given everything that’s happened, the security implications were very much at the front of our minds.

Of course it was tempting to hope that something else would happen to ensure this movie saw the light of day. But after discussing all the issues, Sony and Google agreed that we could not sit on the sidelines and allow a handful of people to determine the limits of free speech in another country (however silly the content might be).

So starting at 10 a.m. PST in the U.S., you can rent or buy "The Interview" on Google Play and YouTube Movies. It will also be available to Xbox Video customers and via www.seetheinterview.com.

Liberals only hate capitalism when it’s OTHER people making money. They’re totally cool with making money themselves. That’s why they like to push that “tax me more” thing they know will never pass rather than just donate money to the government.

Anyway, this is the PERFECT time for the Gangnum guy to make a comeback dressed up as Li’l Kim complete with that special buzzside haircut and black garb.

I bought it. It was ok. The special effects and actors do a good job, but the movie overall is kind of a B effort.

It’s being reported the hacker was really a Sony insider. Just like I suspected from day one. Betting Sony realized they had a stinky movie and hired a PR guy to turn a profit. Hey, if Hillary’s Benghazi movie got tons of viewers, then this trash could, too.

Why would they do a publicity stunt to reduce the profits from their film?

“This issue is too important to try and profit from.”

Then make your own movie about it and give it away. They already took investor’s cash on the promise that they were making a for-profit film, so they would be flirting with fraud charges to not try to make a buck off it.

That’s a dumb theory. You don’t turn a bigger profit by losing your distribution.

I don’t invest in Hollywood. Why should I subsidize queers and child molesters?

So what? Just because you don’t invest in Hollywood, it’s okay for other people who do to get ripped off?

I might believe that except for the highly embarrassing revelations of the studio heads emails by the hackers.

Sorry, no matter what the business is, if they take investors’ money, they have a fiduciary obligation to try to deliver a profit, by law.

Right. The amount of money they are losing because of this stunt is not just limited to how much less “The Interview” takes in at the box office. They are going to lose future deals they would have gotten, just because of the bad press. Actors and directors who are profitable for them may not want to renew contracts now. Then, there are the inevitable lawsuits. Nobody would be stupid enough to bring all that on themselves for “publicity”.
