This is really messed up.

Good grief, man. Have you given place to understatement? Are you all right?

I wonder if Frances will be “Pope John Paul I’d” (i.e. experience sudden death syndrome)

He had a good teaching moment to quote some on the many Bible verses that relate to restraint of the tongue. He could have done that to good effect and been well within his competence.

Bingo. He missed his Pope Goal right there.

GOOOOAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Don’t take it personally. I’m just a stickler about the lack of content in blogs ... especially political ones.

I’m Catholic and I am deeply POd at this pope. I wish I could go take to him. Somebody sure needs to.

There are some protestants who speak as if they are personally infallible (I encountered one just yesterday), so I don’t know why the doctrine of papal infallibility upsets them so much.

Why is it that most popes know how to be a “pope”. This one is obviously clueless.

He did NOT justify an attack. That’s a major exaggeration.

He may have said it. Whether he made it clear or not is another matter.

I am not big on public ridicule as a means of making a statement. A person can debate the right or wrong of that (not the legal or illegal but the right or wrong). Timing, however, is sometimes everything. You don’t defend the position of the mass murderers. They have no legitimate position. The right/wrong, wise/unwise of the cartoons should be completely off the table for a good length of time, and forever when the subject is terrorism.

I have to keep a very low profile these days. There's a moderator or two that hate my guts.

I dunno. The “Peter Principle” finally kicks in?

At the worst possible time.

The Pope made clear that that the use of religion to kill is unacceptable.

Clear as mud.

It means absolutely nothing. The a Pope is just a man called by God to lead a church. That is about it. The rest was made up. I defy anyone to make a case for this idiot Pope being infallible on anything.

Looks like he blew it on the infallibility front.

FYI, not everything a pope says in infallible. That's reserved for major rulings on faith and morals.

Actually, he did: Francis condemned those who kill in the name of religion, but then said, “If my good friend says a curse word against my mother, he can expect a punch. It’s normal.”

Unless you consider a punch to be outside the definition of 'an attack'?

Pope Francis needs a refresher course at Father Guido Sarducci’s Five Minute University ...

"Why is it that most popes know how to be a “pope”. This one is obviously clueless."

There's actually a book with a title called something like, "How to be the Pope," which is a tongue-in-cheek primer for potential popes. It is basically a book of factual information about the inner workings of the Vatican and the papal lifestyle and papal protocol.
