However, I did listen to 1/2 her speech and 1st, let me say she looks beautiful in that outfit and her hair is also pretty.

In other words, it certainly sounds as though Michelle Obama wants us to believe that Nowruz is much like Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July or Presidents’ Day.
I think the author is objecting to Mrs. Obama's claim that some Iranian holiday most of us have never heard of is part of our tradition as Americans.
