Families outraged at filming of Ang Lee anti-war film at military cemetery
Houston Movie Examiner ^ | April 18 2015 | Mark R. Whittington

Posted on 04/19/2015 12:17:24 PM PDT by Marcus

A Friday story in the Springfield News-Sun reported that a group of veterans and family members expressed outrage that a military cemetery in Cherokee County, Georgia was closed off so that a production company could film scenes from an upcoming Ang Lee Film, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.” The position of the group is that turning a cemetery into a movie shooting location would heap disrespect on the honored dead. But the subject matter of the film, based on a satirical anti-Iraq War novel by Ben Fountain, may well push the envelope where it comes to disrespecting those who put on the uniform and fight for freedom in foreign lands.

A Friday story in the Springfield News-Sun reported

Then why didn't you post that instead of sticking it on your blog?

If the films’ producers want to waste their money, then let them go for it. I would have thought that filming at a military cemetery would not happen before asking the bereaved families if they approved. I don’t know if a Government centered cemetery would be under any obligation to seek approval, but it would have been more considerate.

Son worked on the set of this. He knew nothing about what it was about, or that Ang Lee directed it and that Vin Diesel was in it. He’d have croaked if he’d known.

Hollywood has long used fake cemeteries for movies. So why use a real one? The only reasons I can think of are either disrespect or to save money.

The Federal Government Censors should not prevent a movie from being filmed.

They shouldn’t close off military cemeteries for the private use of Hollywood assh0les, either. If the anti-military bigots want to film there, fine. But leave it open for everyone else, including people who might want to repeatedly get into and ruin the shot.

Go away, hall monitor. One of your neighbors might have violated an HOA rule that you can rat them out for.

No.
A stolen story on a trashy blog merits criticism.

I agree with that.

However, the theme of the movie should not be censored by the Feds.

I won’t even see him for another week, probably. He’s working 6 days a week, 12 hour days.

... the 'Victory Tour' which exposes the greed, corruption and callousness of Bush, Cheney, Fox News and the American public, could not have happened. Billy Lynn and his soldiers are in the firefight one day, a few days later have already been awarded Silver or Bronze Stars, and suddenly find themselves on a plane back to America (with the body of their friend, no less). This is a ridiculous, nonsensical turn of events.

These kinds of movies aren't supposed to make sense, silly. It's all about emotion and bashing Fox News, Bush/Cheney, the military, patriotism, etc. etc. A little artistic license is needed to impress the sheeple.

Sure is.

GA FReeper ping.

Is this a Federal cemetery? I would expect something like this given Obama’s people likely being involved after 6+ years. Despicable.

Yes, this is a United States National Cemetery. My S-in-L’s father was laid to rest there with a force of Patriot Guard Riders. It is a huge Cemetery and is a beautiful place in the scenic North Georgia hills. It angers me that the Department of Veterans Affairs will allow a seditious Hollywood film crew to besmirch the hollowed ground there.
