Millennials have less money since Ma and Pa aren’t paying.

Look at their student debt load. Look at the lack of careers that are available out there. Yeah, there are jobs, 30-hour-a-week jobs, but there isn't the opportunity for career building out there. This economy's in the tank. I don't care what the jobs numbers are today. The jobs numbers today don't matter anyway. You know why? Because they're not true.

Millennial's were told 'style' matters... eat that expensive truffle infused mustard and you're 'in'.

Well, it was a lie.

Marriage still matters, kids matter, and integrity matters. The rest of it was liberal elite lies... Liberal elites said 'substance' was out... another lie. Turns out here are no 'cool' beliefs or a flipped coffee that makes your life work...

Whole foods is the tip of a very phony iceberg.

"Due to celiac disease, I appreciate the extensive gluten free selection in Whole Foods. Most of the shoppers though seem to be affluent women with the time, cash, and inclination to make food shopping a review of obscure and pricey foodstuffs that are a notch or two above those of mass market grocery stores. Veblen’s theory of leisure class conspicuous consumption is vindicated."

Veblens and his evils of consumerism have no more been vindicated than Karl Marx.

My inlaws have the resources to do as you describe. Veblen would have accused them of contributing nothing to society. However, they've worked their behinds off, beyond what most people are willing to do, to be able to afford what they like. They've earned it.

Individual examples aside, Veblen was correct in that clever consumer marketing creates brands and products much of whose appeal consists of an aura of exclusivity. I do not see this as evil but as harmless way to appeal to and satisfy human nature.

What brands are you talking about, and what do the labels say differently at other stores?

"Here's some cheap but fine dining for the broke hipsters:"

I agree with your post with one exception. Walmart has raised the price of their powdered milk to where it is now more per gallon than their bottles of milk.

If you are trying to save money, get fresh milk. Cheaper, less mess, less bother.

First of all, I hate the term “Millennial”. It’s a misnomer and pretty much gets thrown around like a pejorative.

Secondly, I resent being associated with hipsters. They’re a bunch of obnoxious losers who can’t even bother to rebel for a cause. At least the Hippies had some cause to believe in, Hipsters are just selfish cynics that people of their own age even hate.

I personally don’t know anyone who shops at Whole Foods in my generation. We all mock it as much as everyone else does.
