Gun-Free Zones Are Not Safe

I love how this works. Gun-Free zones are becoming the main place where anyone has to worry about getting shot. There are countless examples within the last decade such as FT Hood, DC Shipyard, Various Schools among others where violence occurs and guns are restricted. . While the event in Garland, TX was not a Gun-Free zone, only people with permits can carry guns in TX both concealed or unconcealed. The police had guns and took down the terrorists just a hair too late as one of the guards was struck by enemy fire. Everyone else remained unscathed.

The flip side of that coin is all too apparent at the Free Speech event in Phoenix, AZ, where they held a Draw Mo contest as well as an evening protest. The participants were encouraged to bring guns and ... imagine that ... no violence, no arrests and plenty of guns! There were around 500 total paticipants, all of whom were speaking freely. No problems. I've always stood behind the idea that if everyone carried a gun, criminals would think twice before committing a crime and many crimes would never have taken place at all. I applaud you AZ!

Arizona is among roughly a half-dozen states which adhere to the Constitutional Carry logic. This means that any legal gun owner may carry a firearm either concealed or not. I pray that my state adopts this too but I'm not holding my breath quite yet. We may well be the next though. We are allowed to Open Carry at will but concealed carry has a permit requirement in Louisiana.

There are steps being taken in Oklahoma right now to allow teachers to carry firearms in schools. Obviously, there will have to be certain responsibilities to adhere to but overall, I think this is a positive move. Teachers don't have to announce whether or not they are carrying, so students will not know the difference until their lives are saved, should a tragedy on school grounds occur.

No one wants to see these stories in the news but there are realities that we all must face and violent individuals won't cease to exist due to excessive anti-gun tactics like background checks, Taxing, licensing, liability insurance proposals or any other myriad of baseless attempts to to fix the "violence" problem. The violence problem is in human nature, not gun ownership. Violent individuals will use whatever means necessary to inflict their will upon others, guns or not. Gun rules simply make us easier targets of those violent individuals.

I suggest that everyone who respects their right to bear arms should contact your state congress and ask them to consider Contitutional Carry. America is a safer place because of guns and no home should be without them.

Forever Free, Bruce Davis

Like most government programs, the “Gun Free Zone” program hinders that which it purports to enhance, and enhances that which it purports to hinder.

One can point out the folly of gun-free zones without weakening the argument with hyperbole. It is almost certainly not the case that Gun-Free zones are becoming the main place where anyone has to worry about getting shot. Certain neighborhoods in major cities, which have not been designated at “Gun-Free zones” have a much higher incidence of gunshot wounds and deaths from gunfire. Of course, those who are not compelled by circumstance to live in those neighborhoods tend to avoid them.

A post office was robbed recently not far from me. Nice no gun sticker on their doors in Illinois.

While your generalization about major cities may be true in part, I would invite you to look at the gun laws in those cities and states (or district), i.e., New York, Chicago, Newark, Boston, Washington, etc. A more accurate generalization that does apply to major cities is, “When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”

Gun free zones like confiscatory gun laws are a joke because the criminals or terrorists don’t abide by those restrictions and will take their guns and do as they please. A gun free zone just means that a criminal or terrorist can expect no armed resistance from those they find there. It seems lost in the media that many of the mass killings at schools and theaters were done in gun free zones. Those little signs sure help keep people safe.

Under what constitutional authority does any entity have the right to negate my Second Amendment rights any time or any where? As far as that goes why do state laws usurp Federally guaranteed constitutional rights? If any other other constitutional right, such as the libs bastions First or Fourth amendments were under attack what woul be their reaction?

You make an interesting point that really needs addressing by the court system concerning your first question.

There is a major double standard happening where it’s acceptable to post a sign on the door stating “No Guns” and those carrying guns are required to adhere to this request. According to my “concealed weapons instructor, we are supposed to limit our own constitutional freedom inside of an establishment because of the owners choice to restrict firearms, YET ... a bakery in Oregon gets sued by people because the owners decided to run their business how they wish. Marriage is not a constitutional guarantee, bearing arms and religious freedom are. Where is the logic that these corrupt judges are basing these decisions?

Guns are my lifestyle choice, guaranteed by the US Constitution, along with my State Constitution and I consider such double standards to de discriminatory in nature.

the mention of the AZ free speech rally highlights the lack of media coverage. No blood, no story is the rule.

Of course, I don’t have a tv so my impression may be off.
