they do make several claims:
1. 95% less water,
2. doesn’t use pesticides and
3. the business model was attractive enough to interest private investors Goldman Sachs and Prudential.
It seems those three claims merit further investigation.
It always amazes me when I pick up an apple in a grocery store in NH in February. It is from New Zealand and costs $.99/lb. Then I consider the logistics to literally ship it half way around the world to get to me. Also, this apple looks like it was just picked last week.
It would make it attractive to grow local veggies in arid areas in the southwest US. Supplement the LED lighting with natural sunlight (spread around with mirrors).
OTOH, there’s a lot of Texas where it takes several acres to feed one cow, just like in NM. More land than water to support all of those people. Just sayin’
If real analysis were performed on the total ‘system’ energy required a lot of the current green fads would fall apart.
The greenies want “feel good” items, not true numbers.
The proof is in the price.
