I’m Not Angry At Donald Trump, I’m Angry At His Supporters
The Matt Walsh Blog ^ | August 10, 2015 | Matt Walsh

I’ve noticed that most of my readers are not Trump fans, and I appreciate that. I love you guys for being reasonable and not falling for this glorified circus elephant. But Trump fans will come out of the woodwork because of my latest piece here, and when they do I want you to notice something: they claim they like Trump’s “blunt and unapologetic” approach, but watch how they react when that blunt and unapologetic strategy is turned against them. Watch what happens when someone is blunt and unapologetic towards them.

This is the first sign that Trump’s legion of admirers aren’t sincere. They say they like his tone — which is already a terrible, horrible, ridiculous reason to elect someone president — but it turns out that they just like his tone when he’s regurgitating their own shallow sentiments.

Trump, of course, is the same way. He claims to be the bold, politically incorrect guy, but he cries like a scrawny bully when anyone punches him back. He’s weak. And that’s what led to the now infamous incident a few days ago, where he attacked Megyn Kelly for asking him tough questions, insinuating that she was on her period.

Cruz knows what he is doing. He’s being patient. And, with each passing day, Bush is sinking deeper and deeper.

“See post number 2”

Seriously? That post reads, and not with reference to a freeper, “Another nobody trying to get attention by writing about a somebody. Who is Matt Walsh and why should anyone give a damn?”

That is “nasty ad hominem assaults rag(ing)?” That is “Pure nastiness?”

You can’t possibly believe that.

Trump has put his immigration policy out there, his tax plan, his economic plan.

I trust him as much as I trust any politician, the fact that he isn’t a politician is a plus for me.

I agree the fence needs to be completed and the border secured. But the idea that the Mexicans are going to help in this matter is loco.

Nonsense. Apparently you haven’t flown much lately. A Mexican border security fee for those crossing would be completely transparent and no biggie.

Revolutions are sometimes led by those that fight the best on behalf of your cause, and not necessarily by the people that speak the best.

That is why Thomas Paine wrote and George Washington fought.

Trump helps Jeb.

He takes votes away from responsible conservatives running for president.

The RINO/GOPE vote will eventually coalesce behind Jeb, although I think both Christie and Kasich draw from the same well as Jeb. So...Christie and Kasich take votes away from Jeb. Trump takes votes away from the conservative candidates because he sounds like a conservative even though his track record indicates otherwise.

I would stand by Ted Cruz even if he had a picture taken with ¿Jeb Bush.

A lot of people have simply lost faith in career politicians.

Up until just a few years ago the mention of Trump's name would have evoked derision from the great majority here on FR. But he jumps in front of the illegal immigration topic, and now he's The Nation's Savior.

I don't trust Trump as far as I could throw him. He'd sell out his mother to make a buck. And he'll sell out the conservatives of FR for the same reason.

I suppose you could deny it, if you want to be intellectually dishonest. but, Trumpys are never wrong.

Cruz is a bit tougher than that. Although he is the type that needs lots of auxiliaries running at his side because his personality is so low-key, which isn’t a bad thing, it is just not tested against a national leftist presidential election media machine.

I just want him to get some air.

Yeah, right.

The Mexican government is going to write the US government a check for the cost of constructing a fence and securing its southern border.

Someone around here is clearly off his meds. It think it is most of Trump’s supporters who actually believe this nonsense.

“If Trump and Cruz are drawing from the same voter base, then of course Trump hurts Cruz and sucks all of the oxygen out of his campaign.”

Cruz met with Trump a few weeks ago.

If I think my assumption of their apparent stagey of détente is correct, then what they are doing would be unprecedented in primary history and fairly darn brilliant.

“I suppose you could deny it, if you want to be intellectually dishonest. “

I would put it before every honest person on the face of the Earth, in full confidence that none—none—of them would find that remark to be “pure nastiness.”

Hell, I’d put it before Walsh’s mother. Not even a mother would call that a “nasty ad hominem.”

By the way, I’m not a “Trumpy.” I suspect he may be playing Elmer Gantry. What I am is offended by lying, and there’s a lot of it going on here.

Exactly.

Trump is for Trump.

Period.

It is all about him.

You could tell this in the way he answered the debate questions.

I don’t like you Megyn anymore. You asked me a tough question.

He’s like a spoiled child in constant need of attention. And if you do or say anything he doesn’t like, he doesn’t want to play with you anymore.

What a spectacle. He only wants softball questions and everyone adoring him. So narcissistic. Reminds me of the current occupant of the WH in this regard.

the idea that the Mexicans are going to help in this matter is loco.

loco to you maybe, which is why Trump has ten billion dollars and you have an illegal neighbor.

Mexico makes tens if not hundreds of billions of dollars in trade with the US. I am pretty sure Trump will find a way to skim a little off the top of that to build the Fence. And then there is the tens of billions in remittances. The money is there what is lacking is the will.

From a recent Monmouth poll:
“Ideology – Trump leads Walker 27% to 16% among very conservative voters; has 22% support among somewhat conservative voters to 14% for Bush and 12% for Walker; and takes 28% of the moderate to liberal voter compared to 20% for Bush.”

He hurts Bush far, far more than any other single candidate. The day he drops out Bush takes the lead.

I can understand a conservative not wanting Trump as the nominee but I sure don’t understand a conservative not wanting him as a candidate!

Heck, real conservatives should be grateful he’s in just because of the huge numbers of people who tuned into the debate because of him and got introduced to our conservative candidates.
