Trump is a smart executive. He identified the ONE major factor that, if left unhandled, would destroy the viability of the US, and decided to focus on that ONE issue and not get distracted.

IMMIGRATION of the world’s poor into the US will destroy us. THAT needs to be fixed first.

When the other players are cheating, sometimes you just have to flip the table over, spill the chips, cards and drinks onto the floor and draw your .45.

Guaranteed when 30 million wetbacks are voting with the rats, there will be no conservative issues left to debate.

One thing we have learned about politicians, particularly the GOPe is that ANYONE who believes ANYTHING can call themselves “Conservative” and they often do.

What are Jonah's credentials again? Oh yeah, nepotism. His mom published Linda Tripp. Somehow he winds up at National Review with fellow girlie man Rich Lowry. Got it. Anyway, I read this rancid steaming pile of crap, and took notes ;-)

IMPORTANT FACT: nowhere in this embarrassing screed do any of the following terms show up: TEA Party, Amnesty, Illegal Aliens, Immigration, Mexico.

Jonah and his elitist collaborators can not function in a universe where (R) and (D) voters unite to elect someone outside their bubble, even though that is exactly what Reagan did in 1984. The (R)epublicratic-(R)inocrat establishment must be destroyed. They are too stupid to exist and frankly they are embarrassing us - the Constitutionalists. But most importantly they are feverishly working for another loss for America, run a (R)ino and *they* win no matter what, even if the (D)ummycrat wins. But this is to be expected from anyone willing to vote for Rubio or Jeb or Kasich or Fiorino or Graham. God willing these traitors will go down in flames.

Gosh, we know what’s important. It’s not that we get somebody in the White House who will do something about America’s tailspin. It’s whether we can call ourselves part of the conservative movement or not. Get your priorities straight, Americans.

It's a horse race.
I don't expect Trump to be there at the finish line, but I do enjoy watching him mercilessly dispatch the lame stream media and the political establishment elites.

Nathan, thanks for acknowledging your intemperate comments. I think we on free republic should at least focus on what we all agree on - that the gop has betrayed us and failed to follow through on numerous campaign promises (in effect, becoming a unitary with the Dems). The only thing that differs is our response. I, like you, am a big Cruz fan. He lines up well on almost all of my issues. However, I’ve been through this rodeo too many times. I’m not going to sit back and wait for the perfect candidate to gain the support that never comes, allowing this mess to continue and my country to disappear. Cromnibus and the funding of amnesty was the last betrayal. In my opinion, and many others, it’s time to throw a grenade in the room and for at least the one key issue of our generation, immigration, obtain a satisfactory result. Labels and parties be damned.

The GOP is not a conservative party at all. They just call themselves that to try and fool the base.

If we wanted open borders, deals with Iran, Obamacare, no jobs or wage growth, we would have voted for democrats.

GOP sounds real “tuff” on national security, but they are wussies. Open border policy is not “tuff” on national security.

The key for all of us is to stay strong and smoosh the GOPe to smithereens. For conservatives to rise, we have to get them out of the way. Their sniveling about Trump is quite telling and proof of who they are.

I continue to enjoy their squirming and squealing like the lying cowardly piglets they are.

He speaks with candor and tells the truth, who cares what he is. It is time to throw down the gauntlet and start fighting back. The GOP has shown thier hand

Right now Cruz best represents my values as a Conservative.

But this hit piece is about Trump. Who better advances my Conservative values? Trup, or Fox and NR? If Trump demolishes the uniparty and exposes the media as the lying propganditutes that they are, then this does more to advance Conservatism than all of the GOP victories we keep gifting them, which they use to stab us in the back.

If the enemy of my enemy will carry out just one single thing in securing the borders, then that far outshadows any of the campaign cash he may have given to dems. (he also gave to reps - just like most billionaires - they hedge their bets)

There are some of us here who are not Trumpbots and recognize that he is pro-choice, accepts gay marriage, favored single-payer; and yes we are Ted Cruz supporters.

You have to realize that most on FR would enjoy a Cruz presidency. But if that isn't going to happen (and it is early, so there's plenty of time for surprises), the reason it won't is because the GOPe are all in for Jeb and are stacking the deck, adding 14 more candidates to split the conservative base and allow Jeb to slink in with a fraction of the vote.

BUT (<- big but), Trump destroys the GOPe plan. He's overshadowed Jeb and now has a commanding lead in the polls. With that lead, out comes every GOPe hitman, who must destroy Trump if their favorite liberal RINO Jeb is to have a chance.

It is that reason so many on FR are behind Trump - anything that destroys the GOPe candidate (enemy of my enemy) will be supported. In Trump, you will not get the most conservative candidate, but you will get a more liberal candidate in Jeb.

I agree with you. Cruz, Lee and some in Congress are very honorable men. Most of the GOP are there to enrich themselves and be a part of the DC elite. I get frustrated with the fact that we conservatives helped elect majorities in both houses and can get nothing done.

The best scenario I can see is Trump relying on Cruz and other for advice on following the Constitution. And likewise putting the best people in charge of other areas of the executive branch. Plus ,as a businessman, eliminating un-needed departments and regulations that bog down the economy and stifle business and jobs.

And I think this idea terrifies both the Democrats and the Rinos.

To date there are either rabid Trump supporters or rabid Trump detractors.

The next POTUS will inherit a National Debt of 20 Trillion dollars. Jonah’s article is well written and does bring up good character issues but it is shallow.

Trump has built up a real estate empire. Has he been effective? What kind of manager and leader has he been? Will his management abilities transfer well when CEO of the executive branch? Does he have bloated a management staff? Does he keep costs under control? What are his HR policies? What type of health care does he provide his employees? When he supported single payer health care, did he do so to minimize costs to his companies?

These are just a few of questions I'd like answered. Jonah's article doesn't even begin to answer any of those questions. I don't give a damn about his style, although I find it very entertaining.

That’s an awful thing for him to have said!

Any conservative using the word “nationalist” is NOT a conservative. The word is “patriotism,” a word The Donald, despite his obviously oh-so-low IQ according to Jonah, understands.

And where are the anti-Semites, Jonah? Is The Donald now an anti-Semite??

Trump as an employer, has to follow the Fed, the State of NY and the very stringent rules of NYC. From what I’ve heard, he’s a very good employer who doesn’t have much turnover.
