Thank goodness Dad taught my Bro and I the proper way to field dress critters back in our single digit years. All the way up to Roosevelt elk in the backcountry of Oregon.

I remember the first deer I killed. Got it back to the cabin, dressing it out under the back porch light. Knife in one hand and an Outdoor Life article in the other hand. I do recall them making a BIG DEAL about staying away from the intestinal parts. I also recall not liking the taste of the heart at all!
