Republican presidential contender Ben Carson turned to Facebook Wednesday night to address concerns from those who complain he doesnât have enough political experience to be commander-in-chief.
âYou are absolutely right â I have no political experience,â he bluntly acknowledged. âThe current Members of Congress have a combined 8,700 years of political experience. Are we sure political experience is what we need?â
Carson wrote that âevery signer of the Declaration of Independence had no elected office experienceâ and argued that âtoday the political class stands in our way.â

None were professional politicians (and their experience was at the local level, not with the government the sought to replace).
After reading this statement supposedly addressing his lack of experience, I didn’t read anything that showed he had any kind of background that prepares him for the job of the Presidency. Just a long, rambling statement of irrelevancy.
The signers of the declaration didn’t act Ike stoners when they were in debates either dr Carson
Everyone I heard who watched the debate thought gentle Ben was just a tad bit too chill
What did Bammie learn, what did he do, what bills did he sponsor, or what possible benefit did it do anyone for him to hold these offices?
Except perhaps to learn the low down dirty and crooked political tricks that are common in Chicago and Illinois.
Some those were more than just a local politician, serving in the “state” government for a number of years before.
Hey, don’t disrespect jug ears this way - he learned how to not vote for anything that would put his fingerprints on anything. He learned how to vote for a bill to allow infanticide, and how to publish an opponent’s sealed divorce records. Yhsy’s all he needed to win in chicago and the state of IL. /sarc
OK, who are we thinking of and what office did he hold that qualified him to replace the British Crown government?
We do not expect that the designer of a vehicle have any experience in operating the vehicle. And Carson is wrong: many of the creators of the Constitution (versus signers of the Declaration of Independence) had a great deal of experience through guiding the states via the Continental Congress for 15 years until the Articles of Confederation was signed (1781), thence until the Constitution was ratified (1790), some 24 years later.
And even then, the complexity of life was far less than now. Carson is not admitting of the facets of executing the laws which the President faces today. Even Obama, in his initial ignorance, knew more of politics and government than Carson.
There's something not quite right here about Carson's philosophy of prerequisites for conduct of the Presidency by traditional cooperation with legislators rather than by Executive Orders, if I may say.
???
I haven’t made a claim about equal to British Crown.
But all were elected to the Continental Congress first.
Many (most?) had elected office experience before that.
Some of those were more than just the local government.
IIRC, several of the signers held public office.
Now....let's discuss those grain storage bldgs...aka....the pyramids.
>> every signer of the Declaration of Independence had no elected office experience <<
I find that highly surprising that none served in anything like a House of Burgess.
You have hit the difference between the Trump and Carson supporters.
Trump is loud and obnxious, impulsive. Carson is polite, thoughtful. Some of us want loud, obnoxious, impulsive. Some of us want polite, thoughtful.
Polite, thoughtful and CLUELESS! He has absolutely no life’s experience that qualifies him to be President, NONE!
It’s getting to the point where I don’t care who wins the presidency in 2016 as long as it isn’t a politician.
The point of his article is that neither did the founders.
I do.
Once again Carson exposes an ignorant and unconsidered point of view. I am just as concerned about his prior associations: Mannatech, Al Sharpton, Farrakhan via Armstrong Williams, a 7th Day Adventist, as I was about Barak Obama’s prior to his election.
His positions range from admirable to bizarre. The Egyptians built the pyramids to store grain(oops the pyramids have very little free space being mostly solid and the Egyptians left written records of the purpose of pyramid building), minimum wage is important and should be raised, electronic medical records from birth (big brother anyone?), his plan to substitute HSA’s with government contributions for medical insurance because everyone needs to have guaranteed medical care (collectivism alert). When the facts collide with his views he just doubles down.
This is a man who has opinions before and despite facts, a man who at times appears to have a hidden agenda. Ben Carson has very little experience with making deals and with the complexities of an international stage. His career as a surgeon has left him with a belief in his superiority which is untested outside the operating room. I believe he would be a disaster.
In the Washington Times, Carson wrote: “Once illegals have legal status, it will be difficult to deny them any of the multitudinous entitlements that are freely distributed throughout our society.” Carson believes that illegal immigrants should be able to register as guest workers and have a pathway to apply for permanent resident status.
Total hogwash. In addition to their experience in local government, they had 24 years of the Continental Congress, military and magistrate experience.
Tell you what, when Ben Carson allows someone with no experience to operate on his brain, then we’ll look at the efficacy of someone with his lack of experience becoming President.
