Too bad, Politico dishonesty didn't enter Trump's consideration before he tweeted "WOW, one of many lies by Ben Carson! Big story,".

Trump is all over the place when it comes to the media, but they sure do give him a lot of free airtime.

One day he attacks a reporter, the next he thinks he/she is great. Trump is a guy who just says and does whatever furthers his aims at the moment. Don’t expect any consistency about Politico from him.

Did Trump quote the Politico story? Did he say his information was from Politico?

The information is from different sources, one of them from Twitter and one from ABC News:

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/ben-carson-campaign-now-seek-admission-west-point/story?id=35024225

Neither source mention Politico.

Carson did, in fact, write in his book that he was accepted to West Point on a full scholarship. Yet now he claims he never applied.

Dear Mr Trump

You are a smart guy. How smart is it to insult the supporters of Dr Carson? Voters you are going to need to win over?

Stick to why you are the best choice and lay off the Democrat style personal attacks. These tweets raises worries in voters minds that you are too undisciplined and lacking in control to be President.

If you go back to the original story and posts, you will see that ...."WOW, one of many lies by Ben Carson!... was the headline for the Politico Story and....Big story... was Trump's Twitter RESPONSE. (IIRC, he also said IF TRUE)

First off, you should get the story straight.

Trump didn't insult Carson supporters. Trump didn't call Caron a liar. That was POLITICO.

All TRUMP said (tweeted) was BIG STORY, IF TRUE.

Ah no he didn't. You might want to read the source you are claiming vailidate your opinions about Carson.

They actually contradict your claims. From YOUR source. What is the source for the accusation? West Point says they cannot validate Politicos accusation. Seems there is NO source merely an accusation shopped to Politico.

How much you want to be Karl Rove is the "source". This is his SOP. Plant rumore, innuendo and hearsay as "news" stories with tame journalists.

"At the end of my twelfth grade I marched at the head of the Memorial Day parade. I felt so proud, my chest bursting with ribbons and braids of every kind. To make it more wonderful, we had important visitors that day. Two soldiers who had won the Congressional Medal of Honor in Viet Nam were present. More exciting to me, General William Westmoreland (very prominent in the Viet Nam war) attended with an impressive entourage. Afterward, Sgt. Hunt introduced me to General Westmoreland, and I had dinner with him and the Congressional Medal winners. Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point. I didn’t refuse the scholarship outright, but I let them know that a military career wasn’t where I saw myself going. As overjoyed as I felt to be offered such a scholarship, I wasn’t really tempted. The scholarship would have obligated me to spend four years in military service after finishing college, precluding my chances to go on to medical school. I knew my direction – I wanted to be a doctor, and nothing would divert me or stand in the way. Of course the offer of a full scholarship flattered me. I was developing confidence in my abilities – just like my mother had been telling me for at least he past ten years.”

A West Point spokesman told ABC News that records from applicants who are not admitted to the school, don’t finish the full application process or are admitted but do not attend are thrown out after three years.

"Candidate files where admission/acceptance was not sought are retained for three years; therefore we cannot confirm whether anyone during that time period was nominated to West Point if they chose not to pursue completion of the application process," the spokesman said.

> “Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point. I didn’t refuse the scholarship outright, but I let them know that a military career wasn’t where I saw myself going.”

So you quote his book which confirms the report.

The ABC News source quoted Carson’s campaign spokesman Doug Watts. The point is not that ABC News reported falsely.

In this thread, the subject is Politico and not ABC News. The initiator of this thread cast aspersions about Trump believing the Politico crap, but at the same time not relying on them due to severe dishonesty.

The point is this thread’s initiator ties Trump to Politico when in fact, Trump never mentioned Politico in his comment about Carson and West Point. The point is there are other sources of the report and the point is that it is not proven that the reports are false, nor is it proven they are true.

But this thread’s initiator attempts, without evidence, to tie Trump to relying on Politico as the source for the Carson story.
