Full Title:'They might have guns, but we have flowers': Video shows Father reassuring son in wake of Paris attacks

In the wake of the deaths of 129 people out enjoying a Friday night in Paris, understanding what happened has been a struggle for most adults.

Explaining the atrocities to small children, then, can prove incredibly difficult - and as this video shows, has to be couched in terms they will understand. On Saturday, France's Le Petit Journal sent its reporters to speak to parents with children at the memorials that have appeared across the French capital in the wake of the attacks. One little boy standing outside the Bataclan theatre, the scene of Friday's deadliest attack, is asked if he understands why suspected Isis militants opened fire on crowded concert.

Here is the conversation that follows: Boy: "Yes, because they're really really mean. Bad guys are not very nice. And we have to be really careful because we will have to change houses. Father: "Oh don't worry... We don't need to change houses. France is our home." Boy: "But there's bad guys daddy..." Father: "Yes, but there are bad guys everywhere. " 'They might have guns, but we have flowers': Father reassuring son in wake of Paris attacks Boy: "But flowers don't do anything, they're for, they're for..."

There is a good article over at National Review that probably deserves it’s own thread but here it is.

I have heard it before that if there is a flower of the family, it can sometimes be that he or she is a blooming idiot.

I understand not wanting to frighten your young child but this is pathetic.

Tell your frightened child that you will protect them, not that flowers and candles will.

Trying to calm his frightened child is one thing but saying flowers are better than weapons is utter nonsense.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find this supposed "touching" video horrifying?

What else can we call the leftist policies on terrorism-"Suicide by radical Islamist"(similar to "suicide by cop")?

Is Western Europe committing suicide?

I don't get how they can put up with this . Their leaders are leading them to be slaughtered.

Stupid hippies, again. Back to the 60s' anti-war demonstrations:

That was back in the day when you could approach a member of the armed or police forces and not get shot for "invading their personal space."

Uh. My Daddy told me to always be ready to CHARGE HELL WITH
A BUCKET OF WATER!! He was a combat veteran of WWII, shell
shocked all to hell; but taught me that “Cowards die a
thousand deaths; the VALIANT only taste of death but once!”

I have no problem with a father comforting a 3-year-old in this way. Three-year-olds are supposed to believe in magic and that their parents can protect them from anything with anything. They should be sheltered from images of real-world solutions and violence if at all possible. This child, from what I can see, did not directly witness the carnage, and the aftermath should not be allowed to take away his innocence.

The problem, however, is when people manage to grow into adulthood and don’t lose their magical thinking. This is where liberals come from, believing well past their toddlerhood that flowers can stop bullets and that if we are just nice to everybody and agree with everything they say, no one will ever want to hurt us.

They are stuck in the developmental stage where they get mad when they don’t get their way. As they grow into adulthood they don’t lose those feelings, and many are not able to control the rage and/or violence they feel when they perceive that someone is not agreeing with them. They subconsciously (or not) see some justification in terrorists wanting to kill us for opposing their beliefs because they are stuck in that infantile stage of development where they feel (hopefully to a lesser extent) the same way. Instead of seeing radical terrorists as enemies, they empathize with them and see those who want to stop the terrorists as the enemy.

That is why we need real adults in charge.

Just my 2cents

O2

This fool is hardly a father. I’d say he is into child abuse with his ideas.

"Tell your frightened child that you will protect them, not that flowers and candles will."

Also tell the child that the police and soldiers protect him.

I guess the dad was trying to make some kind of creative expression to help his son cope, but, it also seemed like resignation to a brutal, vicious enemy, known for crucifying children, among other things- so it was disturbing on some level too- IMO.

Civilization can enjoy its flowers, its concerts and midnight walks, while stout men stand guard at the gates ready to pummel anyone who dares to disturb the peace.

A society that gives up its stout men will not long enjoy its flowers and concert halls.

“Yes, the kid is smarter than his pathetic father.”

At least the boy is questioning the father’s stupidity. In my wishful thinking, this boy, in a few short years, may take the fight to the Moslem invaders in his country and the traitor politicians who orchestrated that invasion.

The herd rely’s on being part of the herd. Hoping not to be a weak one who gets picked off, or that shear numbers will be a barrier between them and the wolves.
These people are fools of the lowest order. I only would call them men because they have a penis. Other than that, they hold no manly virtue whatsoever.

Like “Elastigirl” said in “The Incredibles”....

“Remember the bad guys on the shows you used to watch on Saturday mornings? Well, these guys aren’t like those guys. They won’t exercise restraint because you are children. They *will* kill you if they get the chance. Do *not* give them that chance. “
