The President of the Muslim Association of Greater Rockford, Dr. Arshad Shaikh in a Wednesday op-ed in the Rockford Register Star said that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is a catalyst for social terrorism in the country with his remarks about illegal immigrants committing murder and rapes in the US and his recent call to halt the immigration by Muslims until Congress and address the terrorism situation following the Paris and San Bernardino terrorist attacks. Shaikh also said that it is un-American for people not to denounce Trump and that Trump has to be destroyed just like ISIS. Shaikh also called Trump as fascist, a racist, and agreed that he deserves to be compared to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
The manner in which Donald Trump has conducted himself throughout his bid for the highest public office in the United States illustrates that he clearly is not an intellectual nor does he understand American history or the U.S. Constitution. His public comments and inflammatory remarks have spearheaded an ideology of racist rhetoric that is poisoning the minds of the American people. None of his proposed principles are founded in the Judeo-Christian tradition. It is pure bigotry and neo-facism. What seems most disturbing is his base of supporters who stand by and applaud him when he spews open bigotry, whether it is wishing to deport Muslims, calling Mexicans rapists or mocking a physically handicapped reporter. That is what most American people find concerning about Trump. His lack of cultural empathy and gross disregard of the origins and history of this great country, and even world religions, are staggering. Trump’s short, brazen and divisive phrases sadly accomplish stoking the flame of ignorance and deep-seated bigotry in some people. And that is the problem.
