I’m honestly not sure if the Associated Press has enough self-awareness left to realize what it’s doing here. And I based that on my own personal experience working in newsrooms. The bias isn’t a product of conspiratorial meetings in which they sit around and ask, “How can we help the Democrats and screw the Republicans in our news coverage even as we pretend it’s unbiased?†In fact, they’ll point to the ridiculousness of that proposition as evidence there is, in fact, no bias at all.
In fact, the bias is entirely organic. The reporters, editors and headline writers actually think they’re striking a blow for truth and justice when they extol the virtues of wealth-redistributing, gun-grabbing liberals while they make sure conservatives are “held accountable,†whatever that means. So when they run a headline like this, is it possible they don’t recognize just how far down the road they’ve traveled? I actually think it is.
Love and kindness and a SWAT team busting the door of every gun owner in America.
I’m sure it’s the kind of thing Huma would appreciate.
