To my mind, that's the type of law that REALLY needs to be changed. Using a completely non-lethal booby-trap in the prescribed manner (i.e. he didn't modify to spew flechettes or go boom harder or anything) to guard your property/ward off trespassers shouldn't open you to trouble just because some dang fool has a heart-attack while trampling over your property.

If the guy tripped and impaled himself as a result, and had to waddle to the ER with a stick poking out of his ass, well, that should fall under the "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" category.

He wasn’t shot with a paintball gun, he tripped over a paintball claymore mine. That’s why he peaked back into the bush behind him and had to wipe paint off his shirt, his gun, his glasses...

I live only a few miles from where this happened.

I also own a bit of property many people worry to much about deer.

I know people who spend more time chasing and worrying about trespassers then deer hunting.

I don’t get up set with trespassers unless they are stealing or wreaking things.

Each to his own.

I got tired of slob hunters/trespassers cutting my fences instead of climbing over them.A couple of idiots thought it was OK to cut down trees in my woods to improve their field of fire in their stands.Beer cans and other trash dropped in the woods, the list goes on and on.

Not so funny if any trespassers as recently noted in Missouri exhibit A, exhibit B put owners on the receiving end & adapt the technique with something not as innocuous as paint. Muslims are known to use booby traps.

Thanks for the explanation. I want a paintball claymore now.

Beer cans...

Hmmm, you could find a USPS truck heading to MI, and give the guy a cut of the higher recycle deposit.

I agree the law is asinine in these cases but it unfortunately is what it is. Hopefully the landowner goes into the situation with his eyes wide open.

A Texas rancher was killed about a month ago by a poacher. You never know what you might run into out in the woods.

In N GA most people are very good about respecting private property. You can get shot if you go up on the wrong place. Paint balling that guy was brilliant. His gun is all messed up.

Too bad it wasn’t a stink/paint combo (if there is such a thing).

Skunk spray and paint would be lethal. LOL!

"We just had a camera stolen by trespassing hunters."

Maybe they weren't hunters...

Skunk spray ....

That would definitely be my “stink” of choice! :-)

If they were walking thru the woods around my land this time of year and weren’t hunters, they have a death wish...the woods are full of foolish bipeds right now.

In states with Castle laws, there shouldn’t be any liability.
The basic assumption is the trespasser is in the wrong from the get-go.
After that, he owns his consequences.
