Mandatory Gun Lock Law Starts in Albany, NY
The Pundit Press ^ | 1/16/2016 | Thomas

The capital of New York State has joined other cities in restricting the ability for gun owners to store them in their own home. A law has come into effect passed by the City Council requiring all guns to be locked in safes or using a gun lock at home. The police is handing out free locks, but stiff penalties are planned for anyone that does not comply.

The Albany Times Union reported on the new law.

First offenses will be violations carrying a fine of $250 or up to 15 days in jail so long as no one is injured or killed. A second offense — or first that causes injury or death — will be a misdemeanor punishable by a $1,000 fine and year in jail

Furthermore the gun owner is liable for the full criminal responsibility of any crimes committed by the weapons if stolen.

There is a similar effort to pass a similar law statewide that has been stalled for three years.

How would this apply to those who have CCW permits?

I guess that’s okay if something happens while you’re in the bedroom at night and you carry in your home all the rest of the time. But if you have one gun and comply with the law the way the grabbers mean it.

We had a home burglary several years back and guns stolen. Ever since then I have guns throughout the house (have a gun safe and security system now). No way I would ever comply with such a law.

This makes as much sense as mandating that fire extinguishers be locked up.

“Mrs. Jones, do you expect this court to believe that when the serial killing rapist arsonist armed robber broke through your front door at 2am, and charged directly towards your room, that you were able to open your gun safe, open your separate bullet safe, remove the trigger lock from your gun, load your gun, and then as soon as he, the naked, serial killing rapist arsonist armed robber, carrying a bloody machete, and screaming, I quote, “Dis one for you, Trayvon!”, burst through your door, you were able to fire six rounds from your Smith & Wesson .357, hitting the decedent with all six in what is close to a small concentric circle around his heart, while making no effort whatsoever to call the police?”

“Yes. I was in fear for my life.”

...to get free locks you give the police all your info...

In WA state sales tax is not collected on gun safes, IF you fill out the form with all your info to get the waiver.

Surprising how many folks pay the tax.
Even after their canoe sank.

There was a self appointed committee here in Washington state that was going to go around checking gun safety in homes. Didn’t get very far.

A sensible person would keep a gun lock next to wherever they store a gun. In the event that the gun is used to defend the home, in certain areas the police will be looking for an excuse to charge the homeowner. It’s nice to be able to point to the lock, or to lock the gun “for safety” as the police arrive.

Next will be the complaint that no one knows if anyone is obeying the law - ergo - police inspections, where they have to inform you before they visit.

At first.

Then it will be mandatory.

Then it will be unannounced.

Small steps, small steps.

New York values on full display!

Cruz should continue to highlight the differences.

We have a box of gun locks that the state mandates. Not quite sure where the keys are.

A “self-appointed” committee? We’re people REALLY that stupid?
