I’d rather hear one sing the Star-Spangled Banner....AND MEAN EVERY WORD!

OK, here's the best version: Bethleghemian Rhapsody (with lyrics) (youtube)

The best. Or the worst. I can't really decide.

Lame. Spent the first 10 grades in parochial school having that and all Christian doctrine pounded into me. I know the stories well and embrace them. But this is just silly and possibly sacrilegious. If it were about Mohammed, heads would roll (though another reason NOT to embrace Islam).

I can only say it is not totally offensive to me. More like immature and if you ever watched King Of The Hill it reminds me of niece Luann’s “Manger Babies”.

I'm undecided myself.

On the one hand, I want to say that Christ deserves the best, most noble, most elevated re-telling our artists and our culture can supply. He deserves Handel, Fra Angelico, Bach, Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, Michelangelo.

On the other hand, I ask myself, "If there existed a really Christian culture, wouldn't it be Christian from top to bottom?" A thoroughly Christian culture would have awezome cathedrals, Mary'n'Joseph salt-and-pepper shakers, Christian oratorios, Christian hip-hop, Christian cathedrals, Christian kitsch.

Hagia Sophia and Hot Cross Buns.
