VANITY: IMO, Trump's line of the night was "Believe me, they will do what I tell them...believe me."

The 'law' you speak of was an 'Executive Order' of Obama’s...He wrote the order to stop waterboarding...

That's not what Trump said. Most here are OK with waterboarding. Trump said he would go beyond waterboarding, "much tougher" than waterboarding. Listen to what the man says, not what you hope he said.

Doesn’t matter who said it, it has been said a long time before Romney said it yesterday. It is true.

See what I mean

We can always make it make sense

You just did that

Sherman’s March was punishment and it left a mark for generations

Hiroshima was to strike fear and a warning or motivator

Dresden was pure retaliation at Churchills insistence in late 44 early 45

Human being capacity to rationalize is at the same time what separates us from the animals but also makes us deadly

Your response and comportment are some of the sanest I have seen. I wanted to make sure I encouraged your attitude and effort.

I agree 100-percent with what you offered. We disagree about our conclusion as to who may be the best candidate (I think), but I genuinely appreciate our conversation. I think your grasp of what’s happening is accurate.

With my best hope for our Nation’s future,

..General Patton likely doesn’t think much about Dugout Don...

However, Patton understood the chain of command. When Ike ordered him to do something, he did it. When Roosevelt told Ike to do something, he did it. Like it or not, it’s chain of command.

Boy, you sure are the ISIS propagandist, aren’t you? I didn’t say they were the right thing to do. I said they had military objectives, not terroristic ones. The attack on Dresden destroyed 115 factories, and the key rail hub for Germans retreating from the Soviets. The orders given the airmen are a matter of historical record: destroy the industrial base, deny the administrative functions roofs over their head.

Hiroshima was the headquarters of the 2nd army and the marine headquarters, as well as a major industrial port. It did also demonstrate to the Japanese that the war was unwinnable, but not because we thereatened to anaihilate the Japanese population, but because we would completely cripple Japan industrially and militarily. We could have bombed Tokyo, but we chose a target whose military/industrial value was much higher relative to its population.

...that is what a Commander in Chief requires.

If that means "dictatorial rule" then Trump is headed for a Constitutional collision.

The Officer's is thus:

"I, _____, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."

That oath is significantly different from the Enlisted oath:

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Maybe Trump doesn't know the difference yet. I don't think he has any personal experience with military service - other than his experience with the draft board (3 student deferments followed by a medical deferment.)

You don’t think the entire Islamic world is NOT watching Trump and saying, “See? This proves our claim that the U.S. is every bit the terrorists that ISIS is!” If not, you’re butt is hurting from having Trump’s hand up it.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. Trump MAY end up being an FDR (for better or worse) but he most decidedly isn’t Patton. Nobody is Patton but Patton.

...nobody but Patton is Patton...

I hope there is another one out there like him. Maybe at West Point now. Maybe already commissioned. Our feckless leader has been forcing out senior officers who disagree with his military expertise.

Well, it won’t be someone who requested a draft deferment during wartime.

Apparently Trump doesn't agree with you anymore...

Trump backs down from waterboarding comments, says he won’t ask troops to violate law

But what can we expect from a serial flip-flopper on every issue? He changes his position day by day and hour by hour.
