Not true. Four years ago a large number of Democrats and Independents signed up to become new Republicans and vote in our Republican caucus. These NEW Republicans all voted for George Romney and Ron Paul. Nonetheless, a plurality of us old Republicans voted for Newt Gingrich in opposition to George Romney. Based on the precinct vote in the caucus Newt Gingrich was entitled to almost half of the delegates to the county convention, but that did not happen. The Romney and Paul supporters jumped up and volunteered to be delegates before anyone else knew what was going on. I ended up being the only Newt Gingrich delegate from our precinct, despite the precinct vote authorizing him to receive almost half of the delegates. This disparity between what the voters chose versus the delegates selected seems to happen all too often in caucus elections, leaving the voters disenfranchised yet again in yet another way.

Call it dogmatic if you must, but Cruz may be rewriting the script for this primary. If Trump ultimately emerges as the nominee, he will get my vote as I’ll be voting against Hillary... but until the GOP dust settles, I’m down for Cruz.
I also wish he’d get off his religious right message. Sometimes he sounds like Jimmy Carter. It the economy!

The same can be said for Cruz supporters who will not Vote for Trump. There is passion on both sides, but everyone had better pull together to support the eventual Republican Nominee in the General Election.
That being said, and I have asked this question numerous times here and have yet to receive an answer, what Blue States Won by Obama in 2012 do you think Cruz could possibly flip to win in 2016?
If he can’t flip any, it’s Hillary time.
Personally I could see Trump possibly getting MI, FL and NY, maybe more.
I am drawing a blank with Cruz and I have been a Supporter of his with Trump as my second and only other choice.
Now I have decided to just support the eventual Republican Nominee whoever it may be. Cruz or Trump look like the only choices who will be left when the smoke clears, but you never know.
It certainly is odd that they would vote for Cruz, then. You'd think they would vote for Trump who promises to "expedite legal status" for the 'good' ones.

My big fear is Trump and Cruz splitting the vote such that neither wins on first ballot—and the GOPe sticks in Rubio or whatever Establishment lackey instead.
The best approach is neither an open primary nor a caucus—but a closed primary.
