6 New Gun Control Laws Enacted In California, As Gov. Brown Signs Bills
National Public Radio ^ | July 1, 2016 | Bill Chappell

Gov. Jerry Brown has signed new gun control legislation for California, enacting bills that limit magazine capacity to 10 bullets; require a background check for those purchasing ammunition; and restrict the lending of firearms, among other effects.

In signing the bills, Brown said he wants "to enhance public safety by tightening our existing laws in a responsible and focused manner, while protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners."

Two of the bills close the "bullet button loophole," as member station KPCC reports:

"The loophole refers to the sale of 'California legal' firearms that don't fall under California's ban of guns with detachable magazines.

"To get around the law, manufacturers created versions of firearms that feature a button that can be pushed with a small tool — for instance the tip of a bullet — to release an empty magazine and insert a new one."

Another bill that will now become law tries to limit "straw purchasing," the practice of a person buying a gun legally with the intent of giving or selling the weapon to someone else....

We're going to start smuggling ammunition into California.

Why bother? There are probably plenty of black market suppliers in every latino barrio. They don't have any problems obtaining weapons or ammo. And this law won't affect them at all; it just affects us law-abiding folks.

So ammo owners will be licensed for both purchase and possession. Face to face sales only.

This will stop criminals how?

Yup. Opportunity in prohibition. One day Jose Kennidizo will have a son Jesus Futzgerald Kennidizo become El Presidente of the DS (Diverse States) on the money made smuggling into the occupied territories. Si se pueda.

And in other news gang related gun conflated deaths continue to rise in the Hollyweird State.

Good question, Criminals will just buy their ammo in Nevada, Arizona or Oregon and sell on the black market. Only law abiding gun owners will be affected.

All text seems to say “if enacted by the voters on the Nov 8 2016 election.” So it is not law and will not be enacted if the people strike it down Nov. 8th (if I read the text correctly)

It sure is complicated. I especially love how a bunch of stuff is set to happen if it passes and how a bunch of stuff is set to happen if it doesnt pass Nov. 8. I honestly do not see how a bill like this can be legal.

It reads like this, if it passes we chop off your left leg, if it does not pass we cut off circulation to your right leg....

I am currently trying to dig into the text and see how it affects reloading. It does define ammunition as having a projectile, primer, and cartridge together. Does that mean we can still roll our own?

WRONG!

WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA!

State of California Food & Agriculture Dept. Inspector: "Welcome to CA. I see you've been in NV. Do you have any fruit, vegetables, livestock, or insect?"
Citizen: "No"
State of California Food & Agriculture Dept. Inspector: "Ok, thanks. Please pull forward for the California Highway Patrol entry interview questions".

CHP Officer: "Open your trunk. We are checking for ammunition, ANY type of firearm, not just assault weapons, and magazines holding over 10 rounds".
Citizen: (GULP)

I’ve often wondered why those California Indian reservations did not go into the gun business.
