Stuart Prescott, 48, of Suwannee Florida shot and killed Tyler Snellgrove, 18, also of Suwannee. The shooting occurred on 13 September, 2014. Deputies interviewed witnesses and obtained a warrant to search Prescott's house. Prescott was arrested and placed in Jail on the 14th or 15th of September, 2014. He was charged with 1st degree murder.
The only news at the time stated that Prescott come out onto the porch and had a confrontation with Snellgrove. He went back inside, got a shotgun, came out and shot the younger man. From wcjb.com:

Now, nearly two years later, Prescott has been released, and all charges have been dropped, by order of a judge. She believes that Prescott felt her grandson was a threat competitively to him.
Prescott is currently in the Dixie County jail on one count of first degree murder.
Just days before Snellgrove has robbed, beaten and threatened Prescott life.The grandmother of the man who was killed, was given space on the news to speculate that her grandson was killed for romantic reasons. Now we find that he had robbed and beaten Prescott only a few days previously.
Prescott claims he was fearful for his life and after confrontation he shot Snellgrove.
Under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law a judge ruled the shooting was justified and all charges were dropped.
When my wife was 15, her family moved to Dixie County Florida from Michigan. It’s a long story filled with bizarreness, but they moved there to be near her grandfather. When he died, he left his house to her parents and we spent a week down there about 20 years ago.
There is no more stereotypical redneck place in America than Dixie County. Nobody does anything down there that’s not proceeded by “Hey y’all, hold my beer and watch this.”
Most of her classmates were named Buddy. They all gathered around her to see her report card because none of them had ever seen an A before. (She said that part was true)
They were so backwoods, it was a five mile drive to the mailbox.
I do have to admit, playing hide and seek with an alligator was kind of fun. (he stayed in the water and I stayed on the dock)

If nothing else, his right to a speedy trial was trampled.
I’d bet they kept him that long in the hope he would plead out and they wouldn’t end up with egg on their faces.
Everyone responsible should go to jail for twice as long as he spent, to the hour.
Worth looking at the video before making up your minds. The shooter reportedly had shot at several other people before this confrontation. May not be all there.
And police probably knew about all the previous stuff. On theother hand, the self-defense law is strong if you can show the right state of mind (fear).

The reports of shots fired at other people were solely from the grandmother of the young man who was shot.
Hardly an unbiased source. Hard to believe he was legally able to buy/own guns if those reports were true and had been adjudicated.
Then, later, we find that the grandson had beat up the shooter and robbed him a few days before the final shooting happened.
All good points. But something must have been going on in that neighborhood or police kept ignoring “he said, she said, he said” complaints.
