This question just wont seem to go away. Hillary supporters are still crying, marching, vandalizing, and recounting about it.
So I'll examine 5 reasons why I think Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election.
5. Bill Clinton It was Hillarys husband who had signed into law the NAFTA trade agreement that had cost so many their jobs in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The perfect revenge would be to vote against this Clinton, Bills wife. No way were they going to vote to give her a job when, with the stroke of a pen, her husband signed their jobs away to foreign countries. So when Trump proposed renegotiating NAFTA, he opened the door wide to people who were primed to be against Hillary anyway.
4. Her Policies She supported TPP, then she didnt. Wikileaks revealed her support of open borders. She wanted to raise the corporate tax when its already the highest corporate/business tax rate in the world. She wanted to continue Obamacare when people were furious that their rates had climbed astronomically after they were promised they would go down. She wanted to allow even more Islamic refugees than Obama had allowed and this was not a popular position with the attacks that had been waged on America by those refugees and on other countries where they were allowed in with very little examination (or vetting as its being called).
3. Her Alienating of Bernie Sanders Supporters She insulted Bernies supporters in addition to Bernie himself. Wikileaks showed that Hillary and the Democratic National Convention rigged the nomination so that Bernie couldnt win no matter what. Wikileaks released Hillarys insulting comments about Bernie Sanders supporters, saying that they were living in their parents basement. A lot of those supporters, came around, to the idea of voting for Hillary, mostly because Trump was repealing to them, but a certain percentage of those who supported Sanders never forgave her.
2. Long History of Corruption Whitewater, Benghazi, server bleaching gate, FBI investigations, multiple illegal conflict of interest uses of The Clinton Foundation, carelessness with classified information, private speeches for Wall Street insiders where she refused to release the transcripts, lobbyist, paid by foreign countries to get certain bills passed, etc. Barack Obama explains in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6f4tZFZ_-g
1. An Outsider, Anti-Establish Candidate Named Donald Trump Trump wasnt a political elite and as others have pointed out, that was probably his greatest strength as a candidate. Even Bernie Sanders said:
How does it happen that they win elections and Democrats lose? I think what the conclusion is, is that that is raising incredible sums of money from wealthy people but has ignored to a very significant degree, working class, middle class, and low income people in this country.
Trump spoke to the working class and, in the words of Michael Moore, was a human hand grenade, to be thrown into the establishment. Therefore, people who were disenchanted and even furious with the establishment of both parties had an outlet in Donald Trump. They didnt have to agree with him on everything, they simply wanted an outsider. Hillary was the polar opposite of an outsider. She was so inside that the insiders were outsiders compared to her. So Donald Trump was able to bring in a demographic of voters who werent even being polled because they hadnt voted in so long due to being completely antagonistic to the establishment. Hillary couldnt win by simply bringing in democrat voters who would vote for anyone with a D beside their name. And she didnt.
1 reason she lost...She’s off the reservation!
6. She didn’t bother to campaign.
6. Her speaking manner would compel a freight train to divert to a dirt road.
She lies like a rug...
I can sum it up to 1 reason, she sucked.
Most important reason: She is a highly unlikable, lying, hateful human being with health issues who spent her life enabling her rapist husband.
#2 is a much fatter category than the others.
My list would be much simpler:
1 Hillary Clinton
2 through 5 Donald Trump, James Comey, Anthony Weiner, and the merciful God in Heaven.
Wow! What a great article!
I’m pinging some friends who will appreciate your penetrating insight and sparkling wit.
(Tell the truth now. Is this original? Or did you peek over the divider and copy off the guy in the next cubicle at the library?)
Number one reason she lost?
She is a sociopath.
Americans voted for Obama to prove they were not racist.
Americans voted for Trump to prove they were not stupid.
I’ve seen this comment of “most prepared or experienced” a good bit. The problem is...once you stop the journalist or intellectual and ask precisely what she did...other than meeting people and giving speeches....there is nothing else.
I think this whole story has forty screw-up’s by her, the Clinton Foundation and the campaign staff. But at the heart of this...after getting 25 years of “jobs of coming” from Clinton, Bush, and Obama....the public finally said that the 1994 episode of NAFTA did destroy the employment sector for guys who were making $10 to $15 an hour in some manufacturing capacity.
I can look in my home-region where I grew up in the south, and there’s twenty small operations of 50 to 500 employees which don’t exist within a decade after NAFTA came. The ones hurt the most? Minority groups.
If you go and grade the last twenty Democrats to run for the Presidency....I’d rate her almost at the bottom on qualifications. Her whole agenda? The Clinton Foundation.
So, in your first three weeks on FR, how’s the blog pimping going?
She ‘lost’ because she wasn’t the “spring chick” as she was portrayed to be.
She was the tough old, grizzled yard-bird that gave up all of her sister hens to the fox at the first opportunity.
I shouldn’t expect much from the media and the pundit class but they were obsessed with the likability/favorability score before the election result but went strangely mute about it during and after Election Night. They are, of course, resuming their silly meaningless ‘personally popular’ polling.
But while these 5 factors may be as valid as any, both sides seem intent on ignoring what an awful, repellent, abhorrent human being Hillary Clinton was - compounded a dozen times over because she was that most unpleasant of female creatures - a bitch.
Trump may have been disliked, resented, mocked...he may have inspired jokes and sniping but he did not and does not have Hillary’s black heart. She willingly and repeatedly acted as a jilted spouse, as a legal and social assassin, as a will-say-anything PR flack and, as she gained her so-called preparation and experience, gladly exposed national secrets and sold her office to the highest bidders.
Even her campaign had to abandon the Woman Card well in advance of the election since it was producing no advantage and in fact was a drag on her candidacy.
I’m as guilty as anyone of trying to find the perfect noun or adjective for Hillary as a fatally flawed person and politician but perhaps a paraphrase of lefty loon Sally Field might be best:
They didn’t like her. They REALLY didn’t like her.
6. Nobody wanted to listen to “America’s Ex-Wife” screeching at them on TV for the next 4-8 years.
No one else would have run against NAFTA so no one else could have beat her
She acted and assumed that she would win.
She was a tragically flawed candidate.
Donald Trump had a plan.
Great list!
Some adds?
6. Hillary Clinton
7. Hillary Clinton
8. Chelsea Clinton
9. Bill Clinton
10. Hillary Clinton
Her experience was more like her looking over someone’s shoulder and using their experience to claim as her own. It’s like a cabin attendant on a plane looking over the shoulder of a pilot who then states they could fly the plane never ever having done so.
