I've said since 2015 that Trump is a Truman Democrat, and I have not meant it pejoratively, since Truman in general stood for what most conservatives today would stand for. But there is one stance where he and we would differ, and that is that he wanted single payer health care, back in the late 1940s.
Americans, outside of hardcore Dems and socialists, aren't clamoring for single payer, but they don't not want single payer either. What they want is to be able to go to a doctor when they're ill, to a hospital when they're really ill, and get their prescribed medicines, all without having to ruin their finances or their credit rating. If they can be convinced that single payer will give it to them, they'll go single payer.
And it’s as simple as that.
It will be the Lovers of Losing Caucus to blame if something does not get passed.
Just repealing the law sounds good but would be too damaging to do. What about all the employees of companies which dropped their insurance programs and forced them onto the exchanges?
