Everyone knows townhomes have a shared wall but its not an apartment, just like a ranch home is nothing like a 3 story home

What?? LOL! is this Landlord humor?

That's a funny way to say townhomes have shared walls just like apartments. You're funnier than a barrel full of monkeys. Watching you twist into knots attempting to differentiate between townhomes and apartments is hilarious. Thanks for the humor.☺

le sigh - yes, they have shared walls like apartments (although, much fewer of them), they also have walls just like houses and usually have as much space as a house! They also allow people to sleep just like houses (and apartments and hotels among others). Just because it has one similar feature (a shared wall), doesn’t mean that’s the only defining feature. Have fun staying on the short bus.

When I was real young I was forced to stay in civilian barracks, it was a condo, apartment or townhomes or whatever it was. I could hear the neighbors arguing, fighting, flushing their toilets, barfing and on and on. I soon figured these places which started to spring up everywhere in the 1970s was all just part of the decline in the standard of living. I was right. Today, you'd have better luck juggling flaming chainsaws than me renting or buying one of those nasty places. Just my opinion of course.☺

I live in a TH and everything you say is correct.

1800sft living, Courtyard, and 2 car garage.

Very quiet, I don’t know if its raining outside based on noise alone. I don’t hear a peep through the walls.

Condo’s OTOH are quite a different story.

This guy is correct. Of course it may make a difference in the quality of construction but a condo or apartment has no comparison to a TH.

High quality townhomes? Uh huh... Even new high end homes today are shoddy and generally are built by illegal labor with nothing being square. Good luck with all that.

I live in one. I also rent out a 3BR rancher on its own property built in 2008.

The TH was built in 2002.

I know what I speak of.

Have you ever lived in an actual townhome? I have for several years and I've had tenants in them for even longer. I've also lived in condos/apartments for years in my early adult life. The noise from an apartment is massive, especially above and below you (which doesn't exist in a townhome, since there are no tenants above or below you by definition).

I never heard anything from my neighbors when I lived at my townhome (for 4 years) and I've never heard a single noise complaint from any of my tenants over the years in my townhomes. Townhomes are usually much better made than condos/apartments and the walls have more insulation and thickness than apartment, and like I've said, have significantly fewer "touch" points than an apartment/condo.

They really are very different living experiences; for me it was moreso going from my last apartment to the townhome I bought than going from that townhome to my first single family home (which was actually 700 sq ft smaller than my townhome, as the townhome was 3 floors and over 2100 sq ft vs 1 floor and 1450 sq ft in the single family home).

“The noise from an apartment is massive, especially above and below you -———”

-

Not true,if it is built correctly.

I have been in apartment for 12 years, new building, and it is one of the quietest places in which I have ever lived. It is the first time that I ever lived in an apartment building.

Overnight guests are astonished.

There are quality apartment/condo buildings that have very minimal noise, especially upper middle class and luxury ones made in the last 10 years or so. My post was more as a “general” guideline.

I’d live in motor home before I ever bought into living quarters which are connected to someone elses living space. Not for me. No sale. Maybe try someone else.

That opinion is fine and my wife would agree with you. Arguing a Condo lifestyle is like a townhome though is ridiculous and my wife would agree with me.

Lifestyle? I never mentioned life style.

My post are clear. Condos, apartments and townhomes are all physically connected and all very similar to apartments in that respect because they all have adjoining walls, that allow the occupants to hear all the arguments, fights, loud music, mental cases ranting, drunks, etc....This is not complex.

And it's certainly not how I want to live, but thanks anyway.

You are wrong that they are very similar but I am perfectly fine that you don’t want to live in a townhome because of a shared walls. The two things are not mutual exclusive despite you acting like they are.

When it's all boiled down, it's all apartment style living. Call them apartments, condos or townhomes...Call them what ya want, it don't matter to me. I call them all civilian barracks with nice facades.☺

No, it’s not, but you can think whatever you want.
