An Iowa newspaper ran a front-page editorial Wednesday telling President Trump that "now is not the time for a rally" ahead of his campaign event scheduled in the state later in the day.
The editorial board of The Gazette in Cedar Rapids asked in an open letter to Trump for him to not hold his scheduled rally in the city but instead talk about his policies and how he will help Iowans.
(TWEET-AT-LINK)
Mr. President, the campaign is over. You won. Now is not the time to rally. Now is the time to sell your policies, listen to Americans with a stake in those efforts and govern, the letter read. Iowans have questions and concerns about your plans. They cant be heard over the cheers of a rally.
The letter listed a litany of topics that it said Iowans are concerned about, like cuts to crop insurance in Trumps budget, paying for flood protection in Cedar Rapids, climate change, healthcare and funding for public schools. The newspaper encouraged Trump to talk to local leaders in lieu of the rally. Thats a lot of ground to cover while youre on the ground in Iowa. But we think its critical you understand the real world implications of these and many other policies your administration is proposing, the letter reads. We concede its not as much fun as hearing the cheers and chants of folks convinced youre making America great again. But its what presidents do.
Screw them. I’m enjoying the president’s rally.
Funny, Obie and Bentone never stopped campaigning.
Why not a rally? The President is probably exhausted and needs a morale boost, we could all use such a shot in the arm.
I wonder if the editors thought there was EVER a wrong time for an Ebola rally. Come to think of it, I wonder if Ebola thought there was ever a wrong time for one. Well, during golf, vacay, or a Reggie visit, I guess.
Did they ever complain about Obama’s constant campaigning?
More winning. The hell with these leftist losers.
No one is listening to you, Iowa newspaper, especially not our president.
I like how the media takes this view that the president should run the country as if every aspect of his leadership should align with and/or conform to whatever the media thinks is important. This is rabid on the Sunday morning shows. Trump owes less than nothing to any portion of the MSM. It is as if they believe they have a franchise to be the explainers of any Federal action. They are nothing but paid propagandists for the left, they are a boil on the behind of some dead animal left by the side of the road.
Well said!
Efforts to silence are ignored.
Go Trump #MAGA
Trump is rocking it at this rally!
Hey Gazette, it’s called connecting with the American people. Maybe if more politicians did that, the D.C. Swamp would turn into a vibrant, flowing river.
Plus he is “talking about his policies and how he will help Iowans.”
Oh. Our mistake, Gazette! Please tell us, if you’d be so kind - when IS the time for the Trump rally? Thanks in advance.
Iowans have questions and concerns about your plans. They cant be heard over the cheers of a rally.
LOL
President: Hillary Clinton is the only responsible choice
"Words come easy for [Republican nominee Donald] Trump, and that has convinced a lot of Iowans that he stands for them, that he believes in them.
Thats a mirage
There are many fair criticisms to be made of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Revelations from Clintons State Department and leaked email exchanges laid bare manipulative strategizing that many find rightly distasteful or morally objectionable. Given nearly any other conceivable Republican opponent in this election, our decision would have been made much more difficult.
As it stands, the only responsible endorsement to make is for Clinton."
The editorial board of the Cedar Rapids Gazette is as leftist as it gets. Todd Dorman is a jackass! The Gazette is a failing enterprise! To hell with em!!
It’s the Linn County branch of the Des Moines Register
Thank you, Jackie. Now go sit back down at the children’s table.
