WASHINGTON/June 24, 2017 (AP)(STL.News) — Two weeks into her new life as a full-time Washingtonian, Melania Trump is staying true to her reputation as more homebody than social butterfly.

Not that she hasn’t been busy fulfilling her duties as first lady and first mom.

Her top priority has been settling in 11-year-old son Barron — the first boy in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr. more than 50 years ago.....

It’s wonderful to have a First Lady who honors her husband, loves her child and understands that her husband is the President and not herself.

She understands it is not her role to create public policy; and that should be greatly admired.

You know the media will be painting her as Nancy Reagan.

Thanks. That’s what is happening in China where baby girls are aborted and there is an excess of baby boys.

Carter had three or four adult sons in Georgia. Amy was a change of life baby and much younger than her siblings.

I forget, what is it again the First Wookie did with her time? Force kids to eat inedible tiny lunches, plant a garden and vacation? IOW, not much.

“That’s what is happening in China where baby girls are aborted and there is an excess of baby boys.”

My understanding from associates born in Red China (but now live and work here)is much of that stopped about a decade ago. Beijing realized that was a mistake.

Incidentally, every Chinese I know and know of came here legally and with the intention of contributing to the well-being of the USA, while building a life. No handouts or expectations of special treatment - ever.

Forgot Reagan and Bush senior!! But again...the sons were all adults.

For me, it's a little hard to call Ron Reagan either a "man" or an "adult."

Heard him most recently pitching atheism on the radio ... for some entity, probably Soros-funded, called "The Freedom FROM Religion Foundation." This atheist organization is going around the country, suing local governments to remove crosses from public property.

His father would be turning over in his grave.

Sounds southern gothic I know but it’s true. Flipside of the coin is that men who do physical work are said to “throw” more boys.

Nothing diminishing in the least, as far as the role she’s playing. She’s made quite a dent in DC already without really trying and has only been there two weeks.

... just as Diana was for the pitiful Charles. I don’t think Harry has that problem though, he’s hale and hearty, and all male. I don’t see much Charles in him at all and neither do the wags in England. Marrying a 35 year old isn’t promising in that regard, though.

There’s something to be said for hybrid vigor, some attribute the success of the United States economy to outbreeding due to successive waves of immigrants, to some extent. Not at all sure that this will continue to be the case, since the “melting pot” is being actively discredited and immigrants are being encouraged to remain insular and not intermarrying rather than entering the society as a whole.

In ‘00 when it was Bush v Gore, I got into a political discussion while waiting for service at a Jiffy Lube (hey, I live near DC, EVERYTHING is political!). The gentleman I was talking with assured me Bush would win. His reasoning? No Dem with pretty daughters ever wins!

it’s a interesting subject; especially when one recalls in Minnesota of the 1950s - A marriage between a Norwegian-American & a Swedish-American was considered ‘mixed’

Interesting in a lot of places. Here, there are people who have been mixed European, indian and to a lesser extent black for a very long time, going back to the colonial era. They’ve become almost a distinct people, looking more Middle Eastern than anything else and they’ve largely kept to themselves. So, you sometimes have a startling experience, expecting a foreign accent from certain people and a big ol’ southern twang comes out of them.

Barron will be of driving age while Donald is in the White House. I wonder what kind of car he’ll drive?? I can picture him cruising up and down Pennsylvania Ave. with a couple of chicks.
