The uncle my dad was named after drove mules in a US machine gun outfit in WWI. I don't think that has been done before or since on an industrial scale, which proves/disproves nothing about the ambient temperature in France since the invention of the thermometer… although Bill Nye the Attention Guy could probably work up some froth about it.

Three decades after the start of WWI, my Uncle C was hauling - by truck - German POWs from the front in wholesale quantity, and they were generally amazed that there wasn't a a Yank horse to be seen, whereas Allied fighter-bombers and artillery had destroyed a staggering amount of the considerable horseflesh impressed into service by the Wehrmacht. Nye's causal relationships are bizarre to say the least, but maybe he can draw some correlation between Mann's hockey stick and hauling Germans by GMC truck versus letting them ride to the Marne on horses.

“Can anyone tell me what this gibberish means? “

It means; “I am relevant. I am important. You are an idiot and I am here to save you from yourself. I am a modern day Jesus; follow me to your salvation!” (That’s the gist I got from it.)

What Nye doesn’t know is that in 1900, 93 million acres wete used for hay production for horses. About the same amount which is used for corn production now.

Horse manure in the streets was a problem, it stunk and carried diseases throughout the year.

"But nobody rides a horse [anymore]... Everything changed in two decades."

Right Bill, tell that to these Nazi artillery soldiers in WWII. I suspect your Global Warming tripe is equally well sourced.

Apparently we’ve got to go BACK to riding horses, except horse (and cow) farts are killing the planet.

Well then we need to get the population down to a “manageable” one-billion people worldwide.

Maybe the CDC has something in their vault that would decimate the population.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horses_in_World_War_I

The use of horses in World War I marked a transitional period in the evolution of armed conflict. Cavalry units were initially considered essential offensive elements of a military force, but over the course of the war, the vulnerability of horses to modern machine gun and artillery fire reduced their utility on the battlefield.

Here’s what means:

All of the great industrialists and practicioners, and theoretical physicists of the early 20th century did the math on energy/power transfer. Their conclusions were that solar and wind were not economicly viable or practical solutions to meet the needs of a changing world.

Their disciples have been reaching the same conclusions for the past 80 years.

Actually, I was wrong, appears there was a big spike around the war and after, I always went off there being more now than at turn of century. There are close to 10 million in US now, which was close the the turn numbers or a bit over if you don’t count wild ones then (of which there were a lot), but it peaked out in the war years and immediately after.

Regardless, buggy whip and pony spanker makers are doing well...

He’s lost his mind. We have to believe the global warming lies and that men in dresses are women. Go away bill. People are always skeptical of known liars.

Yeah, big parts of Europe keep EOD guys around. They’re probably standard fire department auxiliaries.

Wow, I’m surprised it’s even comparable. That’s a lot of recreational riders, and that’s an expensive hobby.

In pre-automobile cites, it wasn' just the manure that was an issue (which was most dangerous from drying up into dust and being inhaled), storage of hay attracted rodents and posed huge fire risk, and horse carcasses added to the disease, rodent, pests dangers:

The horse population dropped dramatically following conversion of urban transportation from horse to motorized automobile and rail.

I think the horse population in the US peaked around 20mm by end of WWI(from memory). This site lists a peak of 25mm as of 1920: https://www.horsetackco.com/horse-blog/horse-population-in-the-usa/

Can anyone tell me what this gibberish means?

Apparently, Nye wants us all to ride horses and he doesn't think anyone does anymore.
