I'm sorry I missed it! :-)
I suspect that pavement has cobblestone pavers beneath, so it might be more capable of bearing the weight than it might seem at first glance.
I’m not up for that sort of thing, but it is funny how Trump could float an idea like that and change the boundaries of discussion. I remember when Reagan talked about blockading Cuba and the whole media went bat crazy over it. He never did it of course, but it changed the parameters of discussion. Trump takes it to the next level. He goes to 11.
Maybe we could recycle the same group of planes and missiles like the Ruskies used to do making it look as if we had thousands of B-2s and tens of thousands ICBMs.
Mr. President, please NOT on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Have the venue in America’s heartlands with ‘common’ man, deplorables. Force any who wished to cover the event to get out of their bubble and mingle with the patriots who helped in making this country as the nation we came to be. Include whatever you wish with the marchers, but by all means include vehicles the folks would see as a part of their heritage and life. Horse drawn wagon, tractors, marching bands. To express our military might - men rather than machine might be more in tune to the expectations of Americans.

While I love the honor and respect that every member of the military deserve and would receive on such an occasion, as a Veteran I can tell you that the majority of those marching in the parade would probably rather spend their Fourth of July with family and friends rather than another mandatory formation.
And as the grand finale, Trump himself will push the button to launch a mobile ICBM from the Presidential Observatory on Pennsylvania Ave that will launch the missile that destroys North Korea in its entirety and “Rocket man” as well.
Horrible, terrible idea.
And as much as I support Trump and a lot of what he says and does, sadly, the comparisons would be sort of accurate. Dictatorial regimes have a parade of military hardware in front of their dear leader.
We should NOT have something like that.
Oh, God, every terrorist in the country will want to bomb that parade.
Well, 7600 potholes were repaired in this year’s Potholepalooza in DC. Seems like a lot to me. I think that argues against the armament porn parade :-)
Okay... so they just had some “fly overs?” If that is what we are talking about... I don’t see an issue. I guess there is support/honor... and going too far. Any sort of honor (especially historic... which would be really cool to me) is great. Lines of marching soldiers, tanks, etc... tacky. IMHO.
Agreed. Banana republics do it to give the illusion of strength. We don't need to do that.
Allow the troops not deployed to be with their families on the 4th. Instead, drive one display down the parade route: a 2D map of the world with 3D mushroom clouds positioned over the DPRK, Iran, China, and Russia.
I am adamantly opposed to this.
Militarily, we are the only superpower in the world, and by a long shot. We don’t need to show off our weapons like some third-rate, tinhorn dictatorship.
Remember, this is a military whose leaders announced just last year to congress that they have trouble deploying a single Brigade Combat Team to combat. That reality hasn't changed, in fact it has become worse. In the meantime, our forces ramp up for another round in Afghanistan, conduct rescue/recovery ops for Hurricane Irma and plan/prepare for combat against North Korea.
Parade? Let the Old Guard do its thing. That's your "parade".
The French know how to put on a parade
he is starting to look like a Peron
Yes, it would be good “theater”, IMO, but liberals would just go nuts about seeing all of that patriotism assembled in one place.
Absolutely love it. Make it the grandest biggest baddest military parade in the world.
