The First Supermoon of 2018 Arrives on New Year's Day

The new year will be off to a celestial start with the appearance of a bigger and brighter supermoon — this time nicknamed the “wolf moon.”

The supermoon is a nickname of its own, referring to a full moon that appears larger and more luminous due to its increased proximity to the Earth. The wolf moon, however, refers to the first full moon of the new year, which so happens to fall on New Year’s Day this time around, according to NASA.

The second of a “supermoon trilogy” that began with a supermoon at this beginning of this month, the New Year’s supermoon should look about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than usual, the space agency reports. The final installment of the supermoon series will kick off on Jan. 31, which will be “extra special,” NASA says.

Good pizza 😋

So, this is a true story told to me by my wife...

My wife and daughter went to visit Luna at the breeder’s home, for bonding (see post #19). The breeder lives south of Berlin in the middle of nowhere. When they got off the train, they needed to find a taxi but there was none.

I am skipping some of the story at this point to keep it short,

Finally a taxi stopped nearby but the lady taxi driver said she was not working but visiting the bank.

A short time later the taxi driver saw them still there so she offered a free ride but my wife insisted on giving her money.

During the ride my daughter talked about being on the way to visit Luna. The driver said she has two dogs and that one is named Luna.

Now, if that is not coincidence enough get ready for this... When a breeder has a dog that gives birth, the puppies are all named with the same letter. So the first are all named with the letter A, like Alice, Anna, etc. Then the next litter are all named from the letter B. In that way you can tell how experienced they are and such. It’s a tradition.

Our breeder is up to X because she breeds from different dogs. When my daughter told her she is naming the puppy Luna, the breeder suggested the name for the paperwork be Xena-Luna. All were happy with that.

Now, as it turned out... the taxi driver said her dog was also named Luna AND HER OTHER DOG IS NAMED XENA...!

I mean WOW!
What are the chances?
One thing OK.
Two things coincidence.
But when so many things start stacking up then you are talking DESTINY.

Maybe not Earth shattering but still, for us, DESTINY!

The New Year firework craziness is starting to take off.
Good thing Luna is not here yet.

I took this picture about 5 minutes ago by putting my digital camera up to the viewfinder of my telescope. It's a clear night in Spain, great for viewing.

Many thanks for your 50 minute bike tour of Berlin.

I really enjoyed that.

I'm familiar with a lot of the buildings in downtown Berlin, but I had no idea there was so much green space in the city.

Quite a few of the pathways are not for the faint of heart when bike-meets-bike!

I watched all of the 2+ minute cruise ads at the beginning and end of your video.

Check your PayPal account and see if You Tube tossed a couple Pfennigs your way!

Glad you liked the video and thanks for the hits zeestephen 🙂

Before last year I had not rode a bicycle for 30 years. Which turned out to be a big regret on my part. My wife doesn't ride because she has very poor eyesight and balance issues. I told her we will get her a tricycle type bike for adults that is not so uncommon here but that is just not likely.

Seeing our daughter on her bicycle convinced me I needed to give it a go. I rented a bicycle for a weekend and it worked well for me. The guy came out of the shop with a woman's style bicycle. What's known as a step through because there is no high cross bar from the seat to the handles. I was thinking "shut up" because I saw it will be a lot easier getting on and off. That was fall, then spring came and I bought a used step-through bicycle and love it.

Bicycling weather will be starting soon and I'll give the video a new watch soon. To get the juices flowing. Last summer I rode to Müggelsee (lake southeast of Berlin) once a week for eight weeks in a row and each time swam in it (there is a beach) two or three times before returning. That was great!

I am soon going to start planning new rides. I highly recommend bicycling for fun and improved health.
