Sounds like a great set-up. 308 is potent medicine for hogs. I’m invested in the 300AAC though. Have to be more selective in your shots but it will do the job. I have taken several white tails out to about 100 yards with and without suppressor. It uses standard 5.56 mags and is much lighter than the 308. Ammo is about the same price and I have access to a good selection of commercial. Roll my own to. It is my general use centerfire hunting rifle and self-defense carbine. Sold the rest of my AR’s. Used the 5.56 in and out of the service. Played with the 6.8. Settled for the 300.

I was thinking of the Noreen BN36 which as it turns out is built on an M1 platform, not an AR.

Still, and AR In .308 or 7.62 x 39 would be okay too.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the standard AR-15. I own one. I’d just prefer a harder hitting round if I’m going up against something as cantankerous as a feral pig.

Ona peripheral topic, I live in Virginia, and our hunting regs ban the use of .223 for deer hunting.

The new model DPMS AR10s are lighter compared to the older ones. I have my eye on the G2 Hunter with a 20” barrel that weighs a tad less than 8 lbs. I have one of the older G1 .308s with a 16” barrel that weighs more than that. The same mags will work with he newer ones, so I am set in that department. I have a 300 BLK but just have not used it a lot.

I had to settle for their cheapest one. It was $2000 and I’m still paying the credit card.

Is that a Remington 870? Shame they were so mismanaged.

How do you go bankrupt during the single biggest gun buying period in the history of the US?

The Glocks in 10mm are getting popular as backups in Alaska. I think the 40 comes with a 15 shot mag. That’s alot of punch.

We soak them in grapefruit juice to get rid of the gamey flavor. Mojo and sour orange juice work good too.
Slow cook over hardwood coals yum yummmm.
How do you guys do it?

I have a Mini-30 in 7.62X39 Hollow point with a couple of 30 round mags.

A GREAT hawg tool!

“I use a Windham Weaponry AR chambered for 7.62x39. Also has an ATN Thor thermal scope.”

I think 12ga slugs is best when you a wandering around for a hog but your choice is good for ambushing it. Although I think 30-30 or 7,62-54 are more suitable.

I made the choice of calibre because I already had 3,000 rounds on hand. I also have a 12 gauge semiauto loaded with buckshot but that is too cumbersome to carry along with the rifle, so I have a Remington R1 1911 45 auto.

My choice is semi-auto with 12ga brenneke. The biggest ones drop dead after one, rarely two shots.
Buckshot seems reliable at around 30 yards or less.

When eradicating pigs in volume, the buzzards and coyotes eat well!
We take the shoulders off the medium sized pigs and smoke or slow cook with variety of methods. Will have to try the grapefruit juice soaking.
