Gave you the reason why many of us called them boats.

Learned that in Marine diesel engineering school. Some of the instructors there were designers of those at the yards in Sturgeon Bay. The lead instructor was one of the engineers for a large firm that had several of those running the Lakes.

Sis hated it, Why I do not know. She came out as a Capt and I told her a couple years ago that if she would have stayed in, she would have been pretty dang high in command. Maybe as high as col.
She was gong with a Dutch guy at the time and we visited her. I remember him telling how they survived the German occupation in the Netherlands by eating grass and stuff.

I remember that, the girl/woman blew right off the bridge and I think they said she and her Hugo fell 150 feet to the water.

I had a bicycle trip which crossed over that bridge; ALAS!, the organizers bundled us and our bicycles into vans, instead of letting us cycle over it. :-(

Great view from the top.

I am beginning to consider retiring in the UP...

Sis hated it, Why I do not know.

A lot of folks stationed there hated it because there was nothing around but woods, inland lakes, and Lake Huron. Had to drive down to Saginaw or further to Detroit to get to civilization.

The real interesting thing about Wurtsmith AFB was a large majority of folks stationed there were very happy being there and, IIRC, more than half were there because they wanted to be there. Hunters and fishermen would volunteer to be stationed there because of the location.

If you weren't an outdoors person it could be a bit of a bummer being up there.
