What for my generation was common knowledge and part of male upbringing (helping dad around the house) is nearly totally absent in some of these ‘kids’.

Ah, but all knowledge is at their fingertips from their iFag smartphones. I blame them spending most of their waking hours desperately watching who "likes" them for most of their uselessness.

Re:Who is the “silent generation”?

In generational theory, they came after the ‘Greatest Generation’, but before the Boomers. To young to serve in WW2, but young leaders during Vietnam. In generational theory, the Silent Generation never has anyone assend to the Presidency. People like Colin Powell.

“To young to serve in WW2, but young leaders during Vietnam”

Good lord!

You’d better hit the history books again-———there was a little something that went on in in Korea and about 35,000 US military died———in 3 years.

Boomers did not force them into living a vicarious life buried in a faggoty little plastic device. That lifestyle is their own creation. I suppose they can blame Boomers for inventing their little plastic altars, but they decided what to do with them.

They smugly believe that all they need to know (not experience) is within the magic capabilities of the damn things. Experience and expertise are meaningless to them.

At work I see some of them looking at their phones anytime they are not physically working. They should be paying attention to what is going on around them but if they are not actually doing something they are looking at the phone.

I was training a small group of them once and had to tell one individual to put his phone away and pay attention. He was doing it right in front of me.

I am just waiting for someone to get injured or killed. A destroyed machine would be the least that could happen.

And it is not just social media. It is games, movies and more. These people are addicted.

People born during the depression. It’s the smallest generation of the 20th century, so not heard from much. Sometimes used to refer to kids born in the 70’s, which is also a small cohort sandwiched between the boomers and the GenXers.

Boomers have voted for all of the above. The used the funds from the treasury and borrowed too much. They spent generations into poverty that will come due. No are other generations blameless? No. But boomers own 50.1 percent of the country’s shit storm. Selfish bastards starting around 1943 forward. Just my opinion.

Where did this idea of retirement come from? Every other generation worked until death. Only boomers will enjoy 30+ years of leasure in “retirement “. Fake construct with fake $$$$$.

“If they leave it up to me (I’m going on 59) I would raid every penny out of this government they might ever hope to get and leave the little snowflakes so far in debt that they’ll have to move to Nicaragua to earn a living....”

I’m 58 - and that is pretty much what has happened. I don’t know if it’s baby boomers or what - but I’m guessing that “we” have the largest demographics, and have been the age group voting in the socialists that are driving our nation into debt.

Of course now I’m to blame too. 10 to 15 years ago I would have given up my Social Security benefits if the gov’t said “You don’t have to pay anymore in, but you won’t get anything either.” I’m guessing I might get a few years of benefits before it all goes bust and they stop paying out.

The boomers were not in charge when education started going down hill.

"Why Johnny Can't Read" came out in 1955. The oldest boomer was ten.

Bill Clinton was the first boomer president.

How can boomers be blamed before that?

The Silents are the generation between the WWII and boomers. They would have been too young for WWII and right about draft age for Korea.

They are akin to Gen X. They didn’t quite live up to the generation before them, and are not as outrageous as those coming after.

I’m thinking it was on “Prager University” that has a facebook thing. They were talking about thinking positive or thinking negative. As you pointed out with that book “Why Johnny Can’t Read” from 1955, and as others have mentioned, the young are always ready to blame the old.

But - what if we were to look at some of the positives? Cell phones are a GREAT tool - my mom would always say “Oh - if only your dad had one of those in construction!” Medical breakthroughs, transportation, leisure time, etc.

And the article was saying how positive thinking leads to thinking of the future (and planning, growth, etc.) whereas the negative always seems to point backwards. (Boy - remember when you could buy a new car for $8,000!)

The Snowflakes Began at Woodstock

I am among the first of the Baby Boomers, graduating high school in 1964, and consider the Snowflakes a product of the feeble attempt at maturity by the most popular and influential part of my generation. The below essay explains my position.

Celebrating Woodstock highlights the worst generation this country produced until it formed breeding pairs. This Baby Boomer vision ignored those qualities which made the United States the Arsenal of Democracy. Their parents were the Greatest Generation, but too few looked to emulate the noble character traits that saw their parents through the Depression and WW II.

These same parents were responsible to the extent they applied the misguided teachings of Dr. Spock. His definition of common sense could not balance love and affection with standards for behavior, self-control, and respect. For too many parents, common sense meant providing every advantage they had missed. In the process of catering to children’s feelings and preferences, they raised defiant, narcissistic offspring who viewed gratification as a right. Rather than examples to emulate, parents were merely vending machines required to fulfill material desires during a time of unimagined plenty.

These Boomers grew up with an unprecedented focus on self. With them the divorce rate first exceeded the marriage rate, and there was first enacted a Federal Support Enforcement program to track deadbeat dads. Prior to the 60’s, syphilis and gonorrhea were the widely known venereal diseases, but the virulent strains exploded until only professionals could keep track. This generation achieved self-actualization through moral exhibitionism and militant self-absorption.

These Boomers adopted civil rights as their signature cause once the Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law and expressed a popular virtue. This law was enacted just as the first Boomers graduated from high school, and therefore provided them numerous opportunities to express costless compassion. The generations which achieved maturity in the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s were those that triumphed for human rights against formidable opposition.

The Vietnam War gave the Baby Boomer generation a chance to sacrifice in a noble cause. Because here a small country (including ethnic Chinese, Catholic Vietnamese and others fleeing Communism), and newly free from colonial rule, sought United States help in establishing self-rule and the means of self-defense against a totalitarian neighbor (Tonkinese) bent on conquest. Instead many chose to distance themselves from those adult realities by calling this fight an immoral war, and thereby implying that they would be the first to volunteer for a moral war, which of course is an oxymoron.

The WW II veterans who were their fathers and grandfathers, related to these children through reticence or stories that service can only be a duty. Instead of recognizing their turn had come, the Woodstock children sought safety by choosing to regard the war as an unjust, barbaric imposition. Jane Fonda and John Kerry were there to affirm this delusion by leading the swarm which regarded those who served as lunatic, drug addicted, baby killing, fascist pigs.

When the Woodstock generation obtained positions of power they sought policies of moral diversity/perversity and material comfort to transform the country into just another Gulag of apostasy, greed, and dependency. As they look to retirement, Boomers demand continuation of unsustainable entitlements in a manner freeing them from financial worries, from any need to care for their neighbor, and from facing the specter of national bankruptcy.

Worse than their simple existence is that they begat through multi-generational psychological incest a legacy of ideologically mutant children and grandchildren. These Woodstock offspring have become popularly known as the “Snowflakes” of present times. These descendants are contra-educated to abhor the Constitution, the virtuous and valorous founding of our country, and classical liberal principles found in values of the Enlightenment. They are perpetual children; are without essential humanity; empty, ignorant, feckless, emotional, overactive, and under challenged.

It seems to me they suffer from SISD or Self-Induced Stress Disorder.

The worst generation in American history still refuses to grow up. https://spectator.org/278662-2/?utm_source=American+Spectator+Emails&utm_campaign=dc1d0007f3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_03_15&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_797a38d487-dc1d0007f3-104520165

The silent generation is the generation born in the mid thirties to mid forties. A small generation who grew up and became adults during the fifties and early sixties. The youngest would be in their late seventies by now.

Well, I subscribe to the Just War Theory. .

Will there be immoral acts committed in any war? Yes, of course.

But can a nation be forced in to war and go to war for moral reasons and conduct a war in a moral way? Yes.

The rest of your essay makes sense.
