Heh. Telecommuting. Still waiting for that one to arrive. The idea that middle managers would support their employees doing something that makes middle managers irrelevant is ... about like expecting Congress to vote for term limits.
And then there’s the Edifice Complex. CEOs just *love* to have big shiny buildings with the corporate name in lights on the front, and once you’ve got that building, well, fat chance you’re going to let your serfs *not* work in it. Let’s fill those cubes, people! Look busy!
Which is why they guy behind “The Cloud” is laughing all the way to the bank. That and “mold remediation”. A sucker born every minute? This is the US of A! Another bumper crop.
My job is Help Desk, internal support. I can work at home BUT cannot because the big boss wants us in an office. On one hand I wish I could work from home as some co-workers are annoying and on the other hand it means the big boss is trying to keep our jobs as it means they will have a job as well. If you work from home then they can hire anyone from some low wage area.
I print at work because having a hard copy where I can easily add notes to and bookmark is easier the say a pdf where POOF it can all disappear in an instance. I have taken too many calls where someone’s pc crashed, the PGP or Bitlocker is not working, the hard drive failed, Windows install corrupted etc.
At home I have a nice Epson printer which print photos whenever I want. I also can print and scan docs right away to mail to say the IRS!! as I have been having to. The IRS could do this taxing all electronically but they want hard copies of correspondence.
Also electronic docs can be modified as the democrats like to do with history. That is why they like iPad tablets in schools (beside the bribery).
