Guys like him are getting more and more rare all the time
*********************************************
I have learned a lot just by watching him over the last 2 or 3 years. He is crude and witty - not the worst, but there are some dads that won’t watch his videos with their young kids. Can’t say I blame them, except my kids are grown up now.

***”AvE is a millright by profession”***

You said AvE is a Millwright by profession... I was hoping that you would say that you knew him (dang it)
He is (went) Very Private years ago, probably because so many people wanted to meet with him.
Always been very impressed with his entire Web shtick and always known that he is much much more than his Website.
(also Good Dad to his Chickadee too)
I watch all of his Vids and if he is a Millwright Road Whore, he is a Good One ... he could also be a Comedian that is just very Intelligent, Knowledgeable and Experienced.
(I’m going with both)

A lot of the road whore troupe fit that bill. Quite a few have picked up the funny phrases that the “old times” are apt to say, some of the phrases he uses tend to illustrate the industry, some of the ones he uses are some of my favorites.

Keep an eye when his lunch box, tool box or tool bin is shown, he puts hard hat stickers on them instead, they hint when and when he had been somewhere, And a few of his tools are dead give aways to the industries he works with.

Be fun to hang out with that group, they should organize, get a Logo and have a Youtube Channel of their very own.

We need to preserve and promote this Skill Set and Experience Base.

I can see me Glued to the Tube watching and Learning from Millwrights in action

Pretty much sums it up. I had a (Made in China) Black & Decker drill which cost me about $60 and burned out in three years. Replaced it with a (Made in China) Harbor Freight drill which is going strong after five years. I don’t even need a chuck to change bits on the $16 HF version!

My wife picked up one for me to use cleaning “Old Arn” as the first process in restoration. According to Jeff Heath, it is better than a rotary wire brush is the rest and paint removed merely drops to the floor, rather than being thrown off the wheel, into the air.

Even so, make sure you wear hearing, eye and lung protection when using it.

DeWalt is trash.

You see them on commercial sites because some people buy them - it does not make them good. My BIL was a Journeyman Plummer for many years and always had DeWalt. He just kept buying replacements because he had so many batteries...

The few DeWalt products I have had I destroyed just may using them semi-commercially...

I recommend Makita, their 18V line is guaranteed COMMERCIALLY for three years, no questions asked.

Drop your drill from a fifth story roof? Send it in and they will repair/replace it.

And just a couple of videos later I was summonsed to assist around the house.

AvE is certainly fun. I haven't heard such "illustrations" since I was a kid helping on the ranch. At least I knew what the "Rhodesian" side is ...

.....

My BiL’s father was a millwright at a Ford plant in MSP area. The plant got together and bought him a small lathe for his basement, after ~40 years at Ford making anything needed.

He built a 4’ scale model working steamship - all from scratch - and sailed it around Minneapolis on various lakes.

The man could (and did) build anything from metal that you needed.

Now, how do we replace the lifetime of learning and perfection that he embodied? In the US, not Asia?

The guy's hilarious. You've got to have your brain in high gear to keep up with the barrage of subtle jokes (Peter Graves / "Airplane" references? In a tool review? Really?).

The lower half of the device looks to be identical to a captive bolt gun, the compressed air killing tool used in slaughter houses (and made famous on TV in "Breaking Bad" and on film in "No Country for Old Men"). Tool of a thousand uses. Get one now before the demoncrats ban them.
